After the last time he had complications I pretty much wrote off his baseball career entirely and root now for quality of life improvements and figure the best thing to do is just let him ride off into the sunset.

Yup, it's about his being able to enjoy his life. If having a job in baseball would further that, I agree, I hope the Sox give him the chance.
They're under no obligation, moral or otherwise, to do so. After all, you can't promise a job to every prospect who drops out due to injury.
Still, Ryan's been through so much and he's worked so hard . . . it would indeed be a class act by the Sox.
