Sea Dogs web site has McGrath starting tonight (when I am not there) and Mata tomorrow (when I am there, or in Manchester, anyway) so I hope they are right. Mata pitched Tuesday so going today would be odd.

Perhaps it's his bullpen transition today. But Mata would be on short rest. I mean, so would McGrath, but you can start him for 3-5 innings and finish with a bullpen game. No reason to be that aggressive with your top pitching prospect.

On the one hand, Jose Navas an 18 year old catcher pretty much doubled his BA with a 5 for 5 day. On the other hand his ISO has been solid.

I've said it before but placing a college hitter in GCL, especially a senior seems like a bad placement. Dominic D'Alessandro pretty much leads the stateside system in hitting. Where's the challenge in asking a college senior to hit against high schoolers ?
.440/.548/.640/1.188 seems clearly like a bad placement on the part of the Sox.

Not trying to be nitpicky, but I thought I'd let the soxprospects staff know that yesterday's Cup of Coffee states:
"Adam Lau picked up the save with 1 2/3 gutless innings"
I assume it's just a type-o , unless he threw underhand or something.
Just trying to help out

Joan Martinez today: 5 walks, a wild pitch, and two hit batters. Something is very off.

Chatham playing another position (2nd Base) other than SS for the first time in his career with the Sox today. Interesting

Lopez, Diaz, and Flores all off to slow starts. Each received bonuses over 1 million when they signed.

Houck only recorded one out and gave up 6 earned runs in his first relief outing.

I did a little research on him during the draft and I thought he looked pretty promising. He was a terrific hitter in college and he has started out hitting about the same. He and Davis both have power but he might be a better hitter.

Lopez, Diaz, and Flores all off to slow starts. Each received bonuses over 1 million when they signed. so? Quite true at this early stage. OTOH, sometimes when unheralded guys do exceptionally well starting out and a positive comment is made, there is a buzz on the board.

Sox need to move Machamer down a spot in the rotation. If you all are interested in making money on milb then pick against the Sox the day after Shugart pitches. It's incredible how bad they've been the following day.

Haven't seen anything about the Houck relief outing being for real or just to get him work before the break (it's happened before). Anyone seen anything?
