Cafardo tweet
Lots of scouts watching Red Sox relievers the past few days including Texas. There's a chance the Red Sox could move Alfredo Aceves.

Yeah, it's probably expecting a lot to hope for a Top-20 prospect in exchange for a DFA candidate.
Aceves's versatility would actually seem to fit the Rangers philosophy pretty well. His fly ball rate maybe less so in that ballpark, but Mike Maddux is earning a reputation for being able to get the most out of his pitchers. Considering the Rangers needs, the Red Sox roster crunch, and Aceves's tenuous relationship with the team I wouldn't be at all surprised by an "Aceves for PTBNL" deal in the next couple weeks.
Used correctly, I think Aceves can be a helpful piece to a team. I don't know that he'll ever get his 2011 results again, but even a 4.00-4.25 ERA with his 2011 usage pattern would be a positive.

If only we could trade Bailey for someone like Josh Reddick, but no one would be crazy enough to do that right...

Given the recent news on Morales, I wonder if the Sox can afford to part with Aceves though. I guess it depends on if he's going to get all Aceves-y on us if he's not starting or closing to start the year.

If Bard is back and Aceves is traded, that makes the bullpen: Hanrahan Bailey Uehara Tazawa Miller Bard Mortensen Morales (DL) Breslow (DL) with Mortensen in the swing role and Wilson and De La Torre waiting in AAA. So, I think they can afford to trade Aceves now for value. Otherwise, he is likely on the block once/if both Breslow and Morales are healthy.

So keeping Aceves would lead to either Mortensen being DFAd or Bard being sent back down to AAA (let's assume the Red Sox aren't going to send Aceves to AAA due to the problems that would cause). I guess I'm rather indifferent on trading Aceves. Perhaps the best plan is to have an agreement done before hand and wait until opening day just to make sure that nobody else gets hurt. I think the Red Sox are much better off with Wilson and De La Torre in Pawtucket to start the season.

Great first game by the bullpen. I really like what I'm hearing from those guys as much as what we saw. Andrew Bsiley deserves a lot of credit for the way he's handling his new role. I often think people shouldn't be praised for doing what they are supposed to do, but when we're so quick to criticize every little thing, something like this should be given its proper due. When healthy he's one of the best relievers in baseball and he seems like a real class act.
Bullpens may not be thought all that highly of, but a great pen can help carry a team. Miller, Uehara, Tazawa and Bailey form quite a bridge to Hanrahan. I don't even mind waiting to get a healthy Breslow back.

Great point, I agree 100%. A reliever needs confidence in his own abilities, and thus they can sometimes be an arrogant lot. Bailey should be praised for putting the needs of the team first.
