I wonder if Venezuelan players will be allowed into the AFL.

I can think of about 1000 other things that should have been a priority instead of banning Venezuelans from playing baseball in Venezuela

I'm assuming there are thousands of other things besides baseball.

I can think of about 1000 other things that should have been a priority instead of banning Venezuelans from playing baseball in Venezuela The administration ordered an embargo and MLB interpreted it as requiring they ban players from playing in the winter league. The Trump administration didn't directly order that baseball players not play there or something.

I wonder if Venezuelan players will be allowed into the AFL. Darwinzon played in the AFL last year. That rule doesn't seem to exist anymore already.

The real question as far as the Sox are concerned, since they've been so heavily involved with Venezuelan IFAs, is whether or not they will be able to continue business as usual (paid staff) and whether they will be able to sign players next July 2 (or the rest of the year for that matter).
This could change how the Sox approach that market considerably. There is already some twitter speculation that Venezuela might ban it.

This discussion needs to stay on baseball. I get there's a related political piece, but there is plenty to discuss related to the baseball side here. Thanks.

Great point and the linked Passan article gets into that a little bit.

Would be interesting if Venezuela becomes another Cuba in re: to baseball
Would suck since that’s a market the Sox do well in, but would still be interesting

They'd find it much easier to defect.

Parts of the article keep getting clipped out. I feel bad for the baseball players on the fringes who need to play in these leagues to get by and earn a modest paycheck. The stuff going on in DC is a shame. This is just further proof.
