EDIT: OPS, not OBP. I'm not THAT bullish on him, lol. Go big or go home.

Lovely BABIP luck on the 8th and 9th spots in the lineup to start the 5th.

Rockies are 1st in baseball for ave, obp%, slg% for the 3rd time thru the order against a pitcher. Their OPS in those situations is over 1.000.

Rays down 15-1 Oakland up 2-1
Interesting note, Manuel Margot was plunked in the head and proceeded to steal 2B.

Nice crowd for a midweek game for a team totally out of it.

That outfield is a lonely place after a misplay like that.

Sometimes people complain about the Red Sox' not taking care of the fundamentals or not "doing the little things" and it's like, do people ever watch any other team play?

Sure we do - because it is not about other teams, it is about the team we are rooting for, the Red Sox - and in many games this year they did not take care of fundamentals or do the little things. Some here are not here to be cheerleaders, but assess games on an individual basis.

My take is that the offense has been great and the defense has been good and the pitching has sucked and the clutch hitting has been wanting. I just think the criticisms get misdirected sometimes.

Agreed - my brief season summary would be "poor prep coming out of spring training, overall poor starting pitching, surprisingly good relief in spots, amazing offense except when they needed it most in many games". Defense has had its moments (some weird miscomm plays between Mookie and JBJ - just indications early on it would not be our year).

Same people complained all year last season as well. It's clear they'll never be happy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. They should look to retain Porcello for around 5 million. Maybe add IP incentives. He's worth more than that to a NL contender. He's probably worth 2 or 3 years over there at 10 plus million. Porcello's value to the Red Sox might not even be at 5 million anymore. Porcello in his 30's is completely different than Porcello in his 20's. Porcello is one of those guys where if he doesn't go to the right environment to succeed and prolong his career, he could go from decent to unplayable and out of the league pretty soon, AKA Matt Latos. His best oportunity moving forward is outside the AL East. Go find the next Porcello who's in his 20's.

Don't know if I've ever seen a HR with an 18 degree launch angle. edit: (hit that far) There's probably a lot of them and I'm just not observant. He launched just about the same type of ball over the centerfield fence in Seattle. Don't know what the launch angle was on that one, but it never got very high off the ground. Add: He seems to have a few different swing paths, probably depending on what he thinks is coming and what he can do with it. One sends low liners and grounders to and through the right side, one that has him coming through the ball for hard liners to center and left center, and that uppercut that sends sky-scrapers way up over fences in left.
