Swap Porcello and Cashner? Neither good but I feel better with Cashner pitching as a starter over Porcello No thank you. He seems to have some potential in the bullpen. Leave him there.

Sweet - since Hernandez let two guys get on base with a 4-run lead we now have a chance to improve our save percentage. Yay saves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweet - since Hernandez let two guys get on base with a 4-run lead we now have a chance to improve our save percentage. That was a screwed up inning. So much of a delay with the injury of the umpire. Darwinzon had to sit on the mound for a good 15 minutes with one warmup pitch before resuming play. Baldelli wasted 10 minutes of my life..

ERod - 17 wins with probably 4 more starts. MFY (vs Paxton), Phillies (vs Velasquez), Tampa, Texas

The A's winning by a good amount. Cleveland won. Hey, the Sox gained on Tampa Bay because they didn't play. Positivity!!

At least there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Eduardo has stepped up and is looking like a extension candidate. Still skeptical of his durability season to season, but he's a solid number 3 starter now, when he was a backend starter in the past. He's in his prime and he's probably the only certain in a uncertain rotation future.

A floating knee cap that messed with his mechanics when it came loose. It was eventually surgically repaired, but it was responsible for several years of problems before surgery and recovering his mechanics post surgery. That long standing (pun) issue is resolved. 2. Last season, tripping over a runner while covering 1B and tearing up his ankle. That issue is also resolved. All pitchers develop IL issues, from blisters and hangnails to TJ surgery. But ERod seems strong, young and healthy going forward. We have a good one to bolster a hopefully healthy Sale, Price and Eovaldi to contend in 2020. That would be awesome, right?

Chronic injuries are much more worrisome than unrelated ones when it comes to a player being "injury prone", and Eduardo was clearly one of those guys. It wasn't a string of bad luck, he had one specific aspect of his physiology that continually caused him problems, and when he finally did have the full reconstructive surgery, it wasn't totally clear to me to what extent the problem was solved or how long it would remain solved. I suppose we still don't know how much life is left in that knee, but just to see him get through a season (knock on wood) without it being an issue is huge for him is a huge deal.

ERod's biggest issue is how unathletic he is. I imagine he'll always be right on the verge of getting hurt by trying to run for 30 feet. It's not that he's obese and it's clearly apparent that he worked hard in the offseason to get into better shape which probably helped him greatly. He just can't move well.

Some people kind of lumped them together as lower-half injuries, but yeah, I'd say the ankle injury looks more like a random/unrelated thing now. ERod's biggest issue is how unathletic he is. I imagine he'll always be right on the verge of getting hurt by trying to run for 30 feet. It's not that he's obese and it's clearly apparent that he worked hard in the offseason to get into better shape which probably helped him greatly. He just can't move well.I wonder if that's more of necessary adaptation to reduce stress on his knee, or maybe even a mental thing where he doesn't fully trust his legs after so many injuries. He certainly doesn't look like an un-athletic guy to me.

RBI - Raffi 1st, Xander 3rd I'm continually astonished at how superficially good JDM's stats are (145 wRC+, 11th best in the majors and actually a fraction ahead of Bogaerts!). I never expect it because he has seemed practically invisible this year, which is surely thanks to his unclutchiness. His WPA is only 0.93; compare that to his 5.24 last season. And Bogaerts, with essentially the same offensive output as JDM, is at 4.13.

Yeah, it's been a weird season. Martinez has five multi-homer games, and the Red Sox scored at least 11 and won by at least seven in all of them. He somehow managed a two-homer game with a negative WPA. I don't know if it's a situation where he's compiling stats by feasting on bad pitchers and has a particular pitcher-quality split, or if just a weird timing/sequencing thing.

Maybe it's just a matter of the Red Sox trying to catch up all season and he has been trying to do too much. I do notice how often he chases sliders out of the zone in high leverage spots. He didn't have the same problem last season so it's not some fatal flaw in his psyche.

Gorkys is a way better choice than JDM in the outfield.
