I know I keep coming back to this, but the big deal for Rendon really reinforces the point: what does Xander Bogaerts make if he hits the free agent market right now? 8/$225-ish? What a steal. I don't know if it's been mentioned in any thread yet, but Bogaerts was voted onto the first team for the initial run at full-season MLB all-stars, and Betts the second team.

Ken Rosenthal (@ken_Rosenthal) Tweeted: OF Delino DeShields Jr. and RHP Emmanuel Clase heading to #Indians for Kluber, source tells The Athletic At first glance this looks like an underwhelming return for the Indians... a reliever and ~1 WAR outfielder for two years of a #1-1a type. Clase has years of control and great stuff, but the K rate is not elite and... he’s a reliever, aka super high risk. DeShields is the kind of guy you can pick up off the FA scrap heap. Kluber’s peripherals are down a bit, but his injuries were fluky and even if he’s not an ace anymore, he’s still probably a 4-5 WAR guy, which is a rare commodity.

Honestly shocked by the Kluber return.

I think age and the injury played a big role in that. On the other hand, the Bumgarner signing may be a real steal. His numbers last year were close to career norms and he's still only 29.

Honestly, if the Red Sox are in rebuild mode and with his talent, contract and age I'd be curious what offers would be out there for him. Not saying I'd ship him necessarily, but I'd throw a line out and see if teams really wanted to get stupid.

Lindor and Trevor Story for example are available as of right now. Just too much talent available.

Xander was 19th on the Fangraphs trade value rankings this year in no small part due to his contract. The only true SS ahead of him were Tatis at 2 (5 years of team control) and Lindor at 13 (2 arb years left).
There's no chance they'd get adequate value in return for him, a true Role 7 player signed to a team-friendly deal for at least 3 more years. Betts you only even consider trading because he's on a one-year deal and you might lose him, but it's becoming clear he's probably not moving for the same reason - they're not going to get adequate value in return for losing a year of him (plus the draft pick).

Perhaps, but fangraphs projects Bumgarner for a pretty darn pedestrian 4.52 ERA. (For comparison, Martin Perez is projected for 4.61.) He is leaving San Francisco for a hitter-friendly park, and his road FIP was 4.51 in 2019 and 4.99 in 2018.

The Brewers have agreed to a deal with outfielder Avisail Garcia, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network (via Twitter). If finalized, the Mat Sports Management client will be guaranteed $20MM over two years. www.mlbtraderumors.comI was hoping Bloom would bring him to Boston

For those hoping for Justin Smoak to be the lefthanded half of the 1b platoon, forget it. He's headed to Milwaukee for $4 million plus a $1 million opt-out or $5.5 million to retain for 2021.

The good news is he is replacing Eric Thames, who is arguably better overall, almost certainly better in a platoon situation as his splits are more drastic, and is still available.

I would have loved smoak at 4 million. But like James said Thames still out there hopefully we can get him.

While anything is possible, I really don't see the Yankees getting involved. They NEEDED Cole. They don't need Lindor. The thing is they took on a lot of money with Cole's contract and some of their guys are going to get expensive pretty soon. Lindor will be there very quickly. Unless they're willing to pay penalties that nobody else has been willing to pay, I doubt they'd do that. But then again, who knows what the rules will be by the time 2022 rolls around? I would anticipate a huge strike and a big rules change as far as the tax penalties go, etc. I still think Lindor winds up in LA or Cincy, who seems to want to make a lot of splash moves. And with Cincy you KNOW Lindor would be a 2 year rental, a guy they won't re-sign.

It will be interesting to see who Bloom signs for a backup catcher or if he picks one up in a trade.
