That's kind of a funny way to put it. "This definitely won't make them good or anything, but give the Tigers credit for this much - both guys they signed do play baseball! Both of them are definitely baseball players." (They each project to be below average next season.)

A couple Twins injuries and someone might win the Central with 84 wins. It would take a lot to go right to get the Tigers to 84 wins, but what the hell. Better than tanking. And while School might be a tad below average, he's a lot better than Harold Castro.

That’s 18.5 million a year for Keuchel. 17 for Bumgarner. Hyun-Jin Ryu is projected to get 17-20 per year. Gives a rough idea what we’d need to pay down if we want to trade Price. Situations aren’t exactly the same, but ballpark.
Options are drying up for the Angels out in Anaheim. If the Angels get desperate to make the most of Trout and Rendon, they could get squeezed a bit.

Not big news, but it’s another potential backup option off the market. The Sox still need someone behind Vazquez.

1/$2M. Pretty reasonable. But the concussion history is kind of troubling.

1/$2M. Pretty reasonable. But the concussion history is kind of troubling. There’s some serious upside there for only 2 million. Cervelli is only one year removed from a 123 OPS+ with Pittsburgh. The concussion issues are serious and he’s more of a wild card than the Red Sox need from a backup, but I really like the deal for Miami.

Oh yeah, he'd have been nice as the backup. Agreed.

The Diamondbacks have agreed to a deal with free-agent outfielder Kole Calhoun, Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports. It’s a two-year guarantee with a $9MM option or a $2MM buyout for a third season, according to Morosi, while Joel Sherman of the New York Post adds that Calhoun will earn a guaranteed $16MM. Calhoun, a client of PSI Sports Management, will make $6MM in 2020 and $8MM in ’21, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic tweets. www.mlbtraderumors.com

Mets, Dellin Betances Agree To Terms By Steve Adams | December 24, 2019 at 12:15pm CDT 12:15pm: It’s a one-year guarantee, tweets MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. That terminology is somewhat subjective, though, as ESPN’s Jeff Passan tweets that Betances has not one but two player options on the contract. In essence, Betances is guaranteed three years with a rolling opt out after each season of the pact. www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/mets-sign-dellin-betances.html

The White Sox are closing in on a contract with veteran slugger Edwin Encarnacion, according to multiple reports. Dominican reporter Yancen Pujols tweets that the sides are nearing a $12MM deal that includes an $11MM salary for 2020. The guarantee includes a $1MM buyout on a $12MM option, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post (on Twitter). www.mlbtraderumors.com

It didn't get much better after Frazee (slight sarcasm but not really) until John Henry.

The Reds have a multi-year offer to Akiyama on the table and are the likeliest landing spot for the 31-year-old, per a Friday report from Nikkan Sports In all likelihood, Akiyama signing will be preceded by and/or will trigger some potentially notable corresponding transactions.www.mlbtraderumors.com/Like a; Nick Senzel trade package to the Indians for Lindor?

Yikes. Happy 100 year anniversary. Thanks for posting that article. I had read Glenn Stout's revisionist history. It was interesting, the war between Johnson and the Red Sox/Yankees/White Sox owners, but it didn't make sense to me that it was just simply bad luck or that anybody with a working brain couldn't figure out that dumping a 24 year old player with trailblazing power who oh yeah, could pitch like an ace, was a great move. Obviously Frazee snowed some of the writers and they figured he'd reinvest in other players, rather than pocket the money. Yeah, the Sox did pick up some talent in the trades. Del Pratt, Roger Peckinpaugh, and Lefty O'Doul come to mind. However the Sox let Peckinpaugh go for nothing and let O'Doul slip away, too, so what good is picking up talent if you don't know what you're picking up? The article was interesting in shooting down Stout's conspiracy theories and validating the record of really happen when it did happen instead of looking for conspiracy theories that don't hold up to scrutiny. The results were clear enough and the logic is obvious. Frazee sold the Sox down the river to keep his own dirty nose above water or something to that affect said by Harry Hooper, who was a very smart man, who knew exactly what was going on at the time it was going on.

Dan Hayes @danhayesmlb · 39m Source: #MNTwins to sign pitchers Homer Bailey and Rich Hill.
Both 1 yr deals. 7 million for Bailey and 3 million for Hill w up to 9.5 million total w incentives on 75 IPs or 15 starts. Would guess this still leaves them room to sign Donaldson or possibly trade for Price.

How does Rich Hill only get $3M guaranteed and $9.5M with incentives? That's bananas.
