This is gold, it's Randy Johnson talking about the transition from being a thrower to being a pitcher.

I was skeptical that the Astros cheating scandal helped that much in their championship run, and that the thought of them being stripped of a title was ridiculous.
Then I read that there was a story the other day about someone recording over 1,100 trashcan bangs. Then there's this article by Stark with the proof of the drastic strikeout rate dropping.
To put this in perspective, this really could be the worst "crime" committed in sports, maybe even worse than the Black Sox scandle. Depends on your viewpoint on things.

Remember when he kept having multi-homer games against the Bobby Valentine Sox down the stretch? Good times, good times.

Astros continue the Rays brain-drain and hire James Click as their GM.

Marlins just DFAed a couple of interesting lefties. Both would in theory would probably upgrade this pen for the future.

Garcia has to get traded, right? Unless there's an off-field thing we don't know about, I don't see why every team wouldn't want him.

That's up to 80% of the best news Mets fans could ever hear. So there is now Twitter talk that negotiations are going poorly and Cohen might back out. Yeeeeeeeikes.

Yep, Yankees are uncatchable. Glad we threw away serious contention before the season even started.

Not to mention they have a crazy amount of good starting pitching depth. The Yankees number 7 starter might be better than the Sox number 4 starter in Martin Perez.

Bauer gets a lot of flack for his social media but maybe the game needs more Bauers...

That’s just a cool view. They should use that more in MLB games.

Trevor Bauer: "You make a lot of money up front, but you lose a generation of fans"
30 MLB owners and Rob Manfred: "So just to confirm, we get money, now? Great, we love it."

This is a disturbing way to begin the day: thinking “Trevor Bauer is saying something very smart.” I am shook. Don't worry, he gets to some reactionary silliness at the end by freaking out over the idea of moving the mound a couple feet. Mostly this just speaks to how obviously bad MLB's media strategy is, unless of course the goal to to squeeze every penny out of this enterprise now and (let someone else) worry about the consequences later, which again is obviously their mode of operation here.

Walker back to the Mariners on a one year $2 million dollar deal. I think he would have been a good flier but sounds like Roenicke is pretty content using an opener for the #5 starter. Things could get really ugly with the Sox rotation is Perez flames out and any of the top 3 guys are injured for any prolonged period of time. They've got paper thin depth at this point.

I think the point is that given the last two points you make, if either of those happens, it's not going to matter who the fifth starter is. As we saw last year, a team with 2.5 good starters isn't going anywhere no matter how good the lineup is.

As we saw last year, a team with 2.5 good starters isn't going anywhere no matter how good the lineup is. I agree with this — hence my general pessimism about this season. The one thing that made me a touch interested in Walker is that he is still young. If he can recover from his injuries, there is a sliver of a chance he is a longer term 4th-ish starter. He really was on the verge of being pretty awesome; even a partial return to form could be a very good starter.
