Nice stop by Bogaerts to start the game off.

Bogaerts up and... They have him bunt to move Andruw Jones to 3rd which he does. Jones scores on a sac fly. 1-0 Netherlands.

I am guessing that in a couple of years, no one will be asking Xander to bunt with a runner in scoring position.

...and he misses one he could have had, hard hit ball a little above his had that tied him up.

Bogaerts starts a DP on a very nice play, going to his knees to snag a hard shot to his left.

Final was 5-0 Netherlands, and it wasn't that close. Korea was not ready for this game with lots of errors and sloppy play. That said, the Dutch infield just looks a lot better than theirs. Bogaerts, Simmons and Schoop are very solid, and Simmons especially had a great day with three hits including two doubles. Bogaerts was 0-3 with that sacrifice bunt, and a 4-pitch walk.
The commentators mentioned this a few times and it's true, the Dutch pitchers threw first-pitch strikes just about every at bat. They got ahead and stayed ahead. Probably no more sneaking up on anyone for the Netherlands. They play "Chinese Taipei" (Taiwan) next, but they won't have to face Wang. He pitched today in their win.

Although Bogaerts didn't do much at the plate he displayed his athleticism and ability at 3b.

I just hope he's forced into left because of the following:
- Iglesias learns how to hit - Middlebrooks is healthy and a stud at third - Bradley is tearing up rf ( if Jacoby is still here) or CF

He finally gets a hit. a double. He tends to pull the ball but this time he hit to the opposite way. Low and away. His opposite field power is as great as advertised.

So the Netherlands advances, along with Taiwan. Bogaerts continues to show good defensive skills at third base, easily playing balls in between hops and showing some mobility as well on a ball hit slowly down the line. Makes a clean pickup and solid throw. He's got some arm strength. He's also looking more comfortable at the plate hitting one ball on the screws but right at the shortstop who was well positioned and doubling to right on a solid hit.
Incidentally, that Aussie shortstop is talented, making all the plays easily with a superior arm. I've been very impressed with the solid infield play from that team. Now if they could only hit...

It's nice he got some practice, but hopefully he is rarely asked to do it in the majors. The Netherlands manager seems to call for a bunt every single time his team has runners at first and second and no outs, regardless of the point in the game.

BTW, the Dominican Republic is crushing the Phillies right now. 28 hits (as of the 8th inning), currently winning 15-1.

The Dominican and Valenzuela need to speed up their game. I want to see Cuba and Netherlands.

Bogaerts clearly needs to refine his approach. He is a bit overaggressive.

This Netherlands' team is quite good. Thanks we don't have to face them this year.

He does. Very impressive for his age and position. If he refines his hitting skills, he could hit 15~20 hrs a year in the big league.

At least Xander is getting lots of practice on bunting. Nice infield hit on that bunt.

Schoop again 2 2B and a HR. Might as well trade Bogaerts for him right now.
