Kid looked really good in 2018, I remember liking him the few times I saw him. Interesting guy to give a look
Seems like his plate discipline that year was an outlier though

The Red Sox are trying to corner the market on utility guys.
His plate discipline in 2018 looks fluky compared to his minor league track record and it tanked in 2019.
He left camp after he heard a pop in his hamstring and didn't get treatment because he was unhappy with his 2020 role with the Cards if I read the story by Bradford on weei.com. What kind of role would he be happy with here then? At best he's a utility guy. He has a decent hit tool, but not much else.

He was solid in 2018. Attitude could be a problem but we also don't really know what was going on behind the scenes there. Its low-risk good depth at least.

A key thing: he appears to has an option left. He was selected by the A's before the 2017 season, optioned for the first time that year, and again in 2018. Last year he was sent down to AAA on April 7 and recalled on the 16th, so that didn't burn his last one.
Since this last spot on the bench (after Plawecki/Lucroy, Chavis, Pillar) may well eventually belong to Dalbec, having a backup MI with options left would add huge flexibility.

If MLB has a season this year, doubleheaders may be a part of it and perhaps, expanded rosters for those. Depth would be key.

Old fashioned double headers...Wouldn't that be a kick?!

Honestly, if they're going to compress the games in the way they're discussing, rosters might just get expanded for the year. And if so, Bloom's constant churn to build depth will look brilliant.
