Let's roll out our nominees at SS for the 2020 SP Pre-Season All-Star Team. Please remember to cast your vote for the shortstop in the Red Sox minor league system that you believe will have the best 2020 season. The idea is to vote for the player you predict will perform the best on the field, not who you consider to be the best prospect. Per usual, each player is eligible for only one position and thus will not appear on multiple polls.
This poll will close on Thursday April 30th @ noon ET.

Interesting.. 1st vote for Chatham. Some, I assume think he's another Deven marrero? I think there might be more there. Better hitter than was Marrero, possibility of more power from his frame in the future and both have/had the glove. Don't like the impatience at the plate however.

I think it's just that Jeter Downs is one of the top 100 prospects in baseball and easily one of the top two prospects in the system. (Consider that he hit as many home runs in 12 Double-A games last year at age 20 than Chatham has ever hit in a season...)
Chatham is a very different player than Marrero. Chatham has a bunch of fringe-average-to-average tools (with a potential below-average one in his power) but none that stand out. Marrero was much closer to your prototypical all-field, no-hit shortstop.
Comparing the two, I think you are very much correct that Chatham has a better bat, but I think you are probably overrating his power and probably discounting just how good a fielder Marrero was, although that's not to say that Chatham is bad at shortstop by any means. They're just very different players.
As for power, I can't say I share your optimism on Chatham. He's 25 now and has never hit for much pop, with a career high of 5 home runs. His doubles power has increased year-over-year, which is good, but he has a very level swing in-game that's geared toward line drives. If he gets to fringe-average power at this point, that'd be a great outcome.

I went with Downs but had to consider Bonaci and Rafaela. Both of the latter two have this nice all-around solid offensive profile with relatively low K%. Hoping for a Bonaci breakout when we return and hoping for continued growth for Rafaela on a path toward MLB utility player. I'd vote for either of those guys to have the better performance this year compared to Lugo. Its hard to vote against Downs here though with his HR/SB track record giving him a pretty high floor.

Yeah, it's an exciting group and prior to the acquisition of Downs, this would've been a very interesting vote.
Very surprised by no Bonaci votes.

Tonight I learned that his full name is Ceddanne Chipper Nicasio Maria Rafaela. I may need to change my vote.
