Minor league players get screwed again.
Of course.

As I said on Twitter, we discussed this on the last podcast, and really, if you thought it through, this has been clear for a while now.
The minor leagues can't run without fans (that's the way teams make money), and logistically it doesn't make sense to have a season that's shorter than 2.5 or 3 months, so if they weren't up and running by late June or early July, there would be no point.
At this point, MiLB is probably at the mercy of MLB in the Professional Baseball Agreement negotiations as well. They're going to need a bailout from MLB, and that might come with a lot of strings attached.

Minor league players get screwed again. Of course. I don't see how this is players getting screwed by anyone in particular. It's just the reality of the situation. They're not going to send players to affiliates to play with no fans. The economics just don't make sense. It works for MLB because of TV. There is no minor league TV money to make that worth it.

They don’t even have the logistics of how MLB games are gonna be able to be played right now could not imagine them coming up with something having thousands of people across the US playing organized baseball.
If anything everyone is getting screwed by this pandemic.

that is awful news for baseball fans and for the players. The one question i have, and maybe this has been discussed, who gets to actually work at the ST facilities. They can't have everyone down there, can they? At that point, the teams will also be spending extra money they don't currently have.
Seems like a messy situation.

This isn't much of a surprise. I'm also guessing that there are a lot of foreign born major and minor league players in limbo. Either can't get repatriated or won't be able to get back in.

If it were true that would add another fun filter to a 10 round draft.

MLB has made cash from a few thousand of us that have subscribed to MiLB.com over the years. While that maybe isn't a factor now, but for the future, how about teams that have it's broadcasts on it receive those funds, like MLB.com is dishing it to MLB teams and sharing it among themselves. It's bad enough the kids get shanked with poor pay. Now the livelihood of every employee of the stadium and team itself is in trouble and team owners i imagine have been taking in how much of our 50.00 each year X however many thousands?

I'm not sure why you're assuming MLB is the entity making money off of that product. If MLBAM is involved I'm sure it's paid for the tech, and it's perhaps possible that MLB gets a cut because it's their players, but MiLB.tv always struck me as a product of Minor League Baseball. While I agree this sucks for the orgs, their employees, and so forth, I don't think MiLB.tv money is nearly enough to move the needle here. MLB makes $1.7 BILLION in TV revenue. There's an exponentially different amount of money we're talking about here than what Minor League Baseball must make off of MiLB.tv. And consider that only 100 of the 160 teams are even on MiLB.tv.

Either way, the two of them have my money with zero product.

Either way, the two of them have my money with zero product. This to of course Phil. My point probably jumbled all up above was the 100 or so teams Milb hosts should be getting a fair share of the 50.00 we pay, or the MAIN teams that have a large portion of games broadcast, like all International league teams, Greeneville that does home games.. Teams like that and just a small amount to others.
