I figure we might want a thread for following any sox prospect signings and follows in the indy/semi-pro leagues. We'll kick it off with the Brendan Cellucci signing:

That’s the best team name ever.

I have no idea in which thread this belongs, but the brand-new Constellation Energy League (which multiple sources have cited as "Signed out of Sugarland") has at least five former Sox minor leaguers. Currently the list is Matthew Gorst, Henry Owens, Jake Romanski, Robby Scott, and Cole Sturgeon. I don't know whether it was worth posting on our side of the forum, but thought I would in case it was of interest.

Uh, I literally knew nothing about this.
Tommy Joseph, Ryder Jones, and Cole Sturgeon are all CURRENTLY under contract. Nice find.

Actually, Rodney isn't there anymore because the Astros just signed him.
It's almost certainly me missing something, but who are the old friends in the CCC?

I completely forgot about Ryder Jones, but yes, Tommy Joseph is in the league too. Glad I did mention it! I apologise for tooting my own horn (but think I've done so infrequently enough that it's okay), but at Extra Innings UK we recently broke a fairly big story about active minor leaguers playing in Europe and Curaçao and a lot of what we covered is relevant here: bit.ly/CovidMiLBers.

Apropos of nothing, Glenallen Hill Jr. and Jon Nunnally (Jr.?) are in the CCC. Never expected those names to resurface.

Wow, nice catches. Had not heard of the Battle of the Bourbon Trail! I look forward to their reenactments of French royal history, culminating in the defeat of Napoleon.
...What do you mean it's not that Bourbon?

Apologies for the self-aggrandisement, but we did a series on minor league signings with non-affiliated leagues, focussing on international signings. For those curious about the language of minor league contracts, other parallels in terms of "loans" (as the contract calls them), and the "Pandemic Contract Exception", the crux of our three-part series is here: bit.ly/CovidMiLBers.

So I can't say that I fully understand it, but the "HitTrax Open" is going on right now, and current and former minor leaguers are competing in what it describes as "a single-player, online tournament specifically for MiLB, Indy League, Pro Softball players, and 2020 Olympic athletes" in what looks like a batted ball data (like Trackman) contest. www.hittrax.com/GameCenter/PublicSeries/ViewSeriesDetail?seriesID=a618c9d2-8e05-4173-a205-e34da5c687deThey just finished qualifying that set up a round of 32 for bracket play. Current system guys on the list as follows (former guys in parentheses): 2. Dom D'Alessandro 22. Ryan Fitzgerald (28. Bryce Brentz) 29. Wil Dalton 34. Austin Rei

Cole Brannen appears to be playing for the Macon Bacon in the Coastal Plain League (collegiate wood bat league). Wow. Joined them in late August. www.coastalplain.com/sports/bsb/2019-20/players/colebranneny34cHe's 2 for 17 with a double, a walk, a HBP, and 9 K's. I get he's had a long layoff and it's a six-game sample size, so I don't want to overreact to those numbers but... you'd hope for a little more than that against college competition.

I'm asking you to forgive me before reading this:
If he's playing for the Macon Bacon and he can't do better than that, he's dead meat!

More of an international league than an independent league, but Marco Cardoso is playing for the Paderborn Untouchables in the baseball Bundesliga. They're in the playoffs right now and it looks like Cardoso has been playing pretty well: www.easyscore.com/stats/players.aspx?p=21624&l=9212&y=2020Unclear if Cardoso will ever come to the States, although there was apparently rumblings about that prior to COVID.
