Bob Nightengale @bnightengale · 3h Cy Young winner Justin Verlander is done for the season with an elbow injury, @chandler_Rome reports, a massive blow to the #Astros . . . Justin Verlander @justinverlander · 2h The report that I’m currently missing the rest of the season is not accurate. There is a forearm strain... I’m hopeful that with some rest it will heal and I’ll be able to return soon. Thank you for all the well wishes. 🙏🏻

We've figured out the parity recipe. 3 games in, there are no teams 3-0 or 0-3.

Bob Nightengale @bnightengale · 2h Dusty Baker said that Justin Verlander has a forearm strain and will be shut down for a couple of weeks and then will be re-evaluated.

Remember every time you clicked on the 2019 thread and didn't go to the newest post you saw 1 1/2 feet of processed chicken? We have suffered enough and you will be spared that.

Foltynewicz just got dfa’ed I will be super happy if Sox get him and upset if they don’t.
Add, after looking at his numbers and seeing a significant decrease in velocity and his contract number. I don’t want him as much.

Good read. He's perfect for a punting team or if the season gets cancelled early.

Kimbrel’s pitching line a third of an inning 4 walks, a hbp and a wild pitch. Thank goodness he wasn’t resigned.

I was looking at Baseball Reference a bit and ended up on Andrew Cashner's page. He was drafted 4 times in 4 years! High School, twice out of JuCo (same one as Clay Buchholz) and then TCU. I can't remember hearing of anyone else drafted that many times, and certainly not ending up as a 1st rounder. Anyone know of something similar?
Also, sounds like a #3 starter to me right now...

I'm not sure of anyone in that situation who ended up a first rounder at the end, but in the draft-and-follow era several guys would go the JuCo route to keep their negotiation window open. Kyle Peter was taken by the Red Sox in '04 and ended up getting drafted each of the next three years by Detroit.

Kimbrel cost the Red Sox a draft pick by holding out until July last season to get a 3/43 deal, which was prorated for last season, and now this season is prorated, and he's been terrible ever since he signed that contract. I feel like there should be some sort of moral lesson here but I can't figure out what it is.

General MLB question: How is the runner on 2nd in extra innings determined? Is it a pinch runner or is it whoever made the final out in the previous inning?

Joe Kelly being Joe Kelly.
Miss his act, and, of course, he’d be our best pitcher this year.

Hatfield was close on this one, he thought 10 games. Having players milling around with no masks, both your own guys and the other teams with lots of yelling back and forth, is not what MLB wants. As time goes on, there's a clearer understanding of how the virus works. Even outside, close unprotected contact for a prolonged period can lead to outbreaks. Kelly is a convenient target to make that point since he precipitated it.

Suspending Kelly has nothing to do with the players milling around, nothing. This isn't going away fast ; Marcus Stroman @str0 Replying to @ken_Rosenthal Makes zero sense Ken. He wasn’t even thrown out of the game. MLB siding with/protecting a team that openly and knowingly cheated their way to a World Series. He doesn’t deserve to be suspended at all. Hoping he wins his appeal. Looking forward to seeing you back out there JK! Jared Carrabis @jared_Carrabis If Joe Kelly serves a single game of that 8-game suspension, he will have been punished more than any of the players that cheated to win a World Series title in 2017. Let that sink in. www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/mlb-twitter-erupts-passionate-reaction-joe-kellys-suspension?fbclid=IwAR3BgDvDT14VPYWGYDxUwqwNXS37eJUE9OM6f9W8K5DECrlo-reYlivxR5MThe Astros are the most hated team in sports, deservedly so. When people like Altuve, Correa, Bregman and Reddick come up for new contracts, what owner is going to want to alienate their team by signing any of them ?
