David Ortiz was not getting the largest contract as a DH. Rafael Devers will be the next prize free agent to be for Red Sox. Bogaerts can(and almost certainly will) opt out after next season. It will be interesting to see how the Sox approach that one. Devers is due for a massive raise and he should get it, too. They need that bat long-term. After Lindors contract I do not see how xander wouldnt opt out. I mean hes getting under paid by 10-15 mil a year for the rest of his contract. That makes me nervous he might be the single most important person in the organization moving forward.

Eovaldi isn’t a bad contract anymore. He is playing pretty well and has one more year at $17M next year.

Boogarts with boras as his agent....will be PAID!! I’ll argue it won’t be by Red Sox. But if players are locked out for an extended time it could actually help Sox keep him. ( I see salaries decreasing if it gets ugly due to the hurt it will do to game in terms of revenue).

I moved the discussion about the Betts trade to the thread about that trade. If you're going to rehash the trade, please do it in that thread only.

Your going to be really surprised! Xander couldn’t be a free agent when he signed his contract and was coming off down season. And don’t you think maybe boras was quite wise and built the opt out for a reason? Ie Xander knew full well the opt out was built in so if he improved ( which he has)!or money increased drastically ( it has) he is protected.

He is getting paid 14 mil less a year moving forward then Lindor. Id say the chances of boras not capitalizing on that for xander are slim. Hell even if xander asks for 8 yrs at 30 a yr that would be seen as a typical deal he could see as a free agent.

And Kluber is down for a long time (which is conflicting because he's such a great pitcher, but also a NYY). Taijuan Walker looks like he may finally be figuring it out, although his stuff isn't what it used to be. Also, the Ortiz quote on Valentine never gets old. Lordy was that guy an atrocious manager for the Sox. Worst in my lifetime, easily, and Kerrigan was...suboptimal. Hobson was pretty mediocre too, although they weren't exactly a well-constructed team then either.
