I didn't know a team's window for contention could open and close at the exact same time.

How/Why?
On an off-topic note, I ended up down a rabbit hole of Yankees Managers and Billy Martin. I'm a little young to remember Crazy Steinbrenner, but holy hell the managerial carousel that guy ran with 20 (!) manager changes from 1974 to 1992.

To be fair, a point I saw on Twitter - LaRussa was the manager of Rickey Henderson and the Bash Brothers. He's not necessarily going to come in and tell the players to be robots.

To be fair, a point I saw on Twitter - LaRussa was the manager of Rickey Henderson and the Bash Brothers. He's not necessarily going to come in and tell the players to be robots. "He was fun and young back in the '80s" is a pretty grim defense. Honestly, I don't know if he'll be that much of a stick-in-the-mud. I just know that based on everything I've heard from him this millennium, the dude is way overripe and I don't know why the White Sox felt like this is the direction they needed to go in. (I also harbor an unprovable suspicion that much that went wrong with the post-2018 Red Sox is somehow his fault.) ADD: Oh I had forgotten that he was leading the charge of old fusties mad about Tatis hitting that homer on 3-0. What a goob. This is a funny hour-plus podcast about the LaRussa hire, with Joe Posnanski and Michael Schur. Seriously, more fun than it sounds.

Yankees spending a sizable chunk of their available cash: The Yankees have exercised reliever Zack Britton’s option, thereby keeping the left-hander under contract for the next two years, Andy Martino of SNY reports. The team had been facing a decision over whether to pick up a $14MM option for 2022. Had the Yankees declined it, Britton would have had the chance to opt out of his contract immediately and become a free agent.www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/10/yankees-pick-up-zack-brittons-option.html

Tigers officially hired Hinch. Good, one less obstacle in our path towards bringing Cora back.

I may bash Cora and Hinch, but I’ll tell you this: I have more respect for them than for La Russa, no matter how involved they were in the Astros stuff. The White Sox are now on my serious enemies list — my Yankee list of teams that if the Sox don’t win, I just hope it’s not them list.

Anyone that supports the idea of a ten year prison term for marijuana possession should be burned at the stake.

So that we don't all have to look it up on the Internet, 79 grams is 3 ounces. A felony charge seems a bit harsh.

Anyone that supports the idea of a ten year prison term for marijuana possession should be burned at the stake. It honestly pisses me off. This kid has a bright future, and this could ruin it. And if he had 78 bottles of vodka, they’d have just said “enjoy the party.” Or, if he’d been in a state that has entered the 21st century...

First a statement. I believe pot should be totally legal everywhere so I am also not happy here.
Now the devil's advocate. He was from Georgia so he had to know and 3 ounces with today's quality means that this was much more likely to be his off-season job than being just a recreational user.

My personal opinion it was for personal use not for selling. Hell when I was in college when it was illegal in MA if a guy had 3oz on him he was deff small time. In MA if you have 6 ppl in your car you can have an oz a person or 6oz. Its laughable it is not legal yet, so 3oz is a joke. In the nhl they do not even test for it anymore. By the way bill lee says hi for anyone that's still for it to be illegal.

By the way bill lee says hi for anyone that's still for it to be illegal. I've met Bill Lee several times and like Bill Lee, and am well aware of his story. That said, I'm still for it to be illegal (heavy fines, not excessive jail time) except for medicinal purposes (cancer patients). It's possible for people not to be too wild about it being legal. I've never smoked pot ever in my life and have no desire to do so and don't automatically think people are "cool" because they do it, and believe it or not for the most part I'm considered "liberal". I don't want to be political here - this isn't the place to be so. I'm just pushing back against a blanket statement that say that people can't still be against the legalization of pot (and I know I'm in the overwhelming minority, but that's how I feel - and I respect the rights of others to think differently on the subject). I just think it's to each their own on this subject, like a lot of things these days. And it's ok to disagree with civility.
