NOTHING leaks out of this front office. Nothing!

Don't hate, don't love it. They needed a rhh guy who can play corner OF. Not a bad option for 4th OF and only 1 year. Ill change my tune real quick if they signed him with expectation hes an opening day starter though.

Solid for a platoon OF. Crushes LHP and should use the monster well. Works for me.

I can't say I'm surprised. I would guess that at some point Bloom and the TB GM discussed Renfroe and the TB GM (his name escapes me at the moment) went out an acquired him last season.
My concern is that there's a lot of swing and miss - it's like a duplication of Dalbec. One Dalbec in a lineup can be good, but multiple hitters like that (I'm thinking possibly Chavis as well) can make for a lot of strike outs and very few hits.
Renfroe at his best can be a monster power hitter. His presence could force Verdugo into playing a lot of CF, which isn't particularly ideal for the defense, but we'll see if the Sox can bring JBJ back, although I think it's less likely than more likely.

I like it. Wonder if the next OF shoe to drop is a good LH CF to essentially platoon and provide late game D. Verdugo would bounce between RF/CF. Is Brian Goodwin a good enough option in what could be a half season stop gap if Duran is for real.

NOTHING leaks out of this front office. Nothing! Had this same thought immediately. Dombrowski's FO didn't leak because he attacked quickly, but man, airtight. Also, note that he's under team control for 3 years - he has 2 more arb years after this one - but they're not guaranteed.

All I see is bases loaded no outs and then this part of the order
7- Bobby Dalbec Strike out swinging 8- Hunter Renfro Strike out Swinging 9- Michael Chavis Strike out looking

I'm getting Cody Ross nostalgia. Think Renfroe has a lot more power than ross did, tho liked Ross. Nobody mentioned Hunter gets to finally join organization his brother was with yet?

I like it at this price, a right handed batter with a Fenway power swing as the 4th OF. It works especially if you want to bring JBJ back.

I agree. I still feel for whatever reason that at least 1 pitcher is going to come through trade. Chavis, Benny, posible Dalbec or any number of players.

Called it (in fact, the only reason he was on the list of candidates on the projected roster page was because I suggested it). Let's hope I'm right about Hendriks as well!
They can use Verdugo as the backup CF, but I still think that signing Enrique Hernandez to share the CF backup and also back up SS is a swell idea. Also a fallback plan to not signing JBJ.
They'll have Renfroe play some 1B in SY so Dalbec can play 3B against tough lefties, instead of sitting one of the outfielders.

Great value signing. Hoping 2020 was an outlier, you are getting a 2 WAR player at 29 years old, with 2 years more of control for under 4M$.

I wasn't very clear. I didn't imply to mean that Bloom was part of that trade. He was with Boston when that deal went down. I was trying to say that at some point when they were evaluating targets from other clubs for any future deals if the need arises I would think that they evaluated and discussed Renfroe and that the evaluation was favorable.

He's not related to David Renfroe. I think some folks here (myself among them) mistakenly thought he was related at the time, in large part because they're both from Mississippi.

Statscast and UZR peg him as an average defensive outfielder while DRS has him as above average (with almost all positive value coming in 2019). His xBA dropped to 6th percentile last year. Really hoping this is a guy the Red Sox see as someone they can 'fix' to reach his upside (plus-plus power, former 1st rd pick and in prime age of career) and possibly flip at the deadline if they aren't in it as there's some downside here - if he plays like he did last year, he'll be cut before the all-star game. In-case anyone wants to look way-too-in-depth at his defense: baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/hunter-renfroe-592669?stats=statcast-r-fielding-mlb

Renfroe playing mostly against LHP could do a LOT of damage at Fenway. He's got a pretty heavy career split and loves to pull the ball. Even without "fixing" him he's useful in a platoon role.
