Woah, all the way to #4 for Whitlock? That must be based on pretty high confidence that he has a good enough third pitch to stick at starter, yes?

Appreciate the rankings being updated to close out the long weekend. Curious about where the Greenville Tylers stand in Chris and Ian's opinions.
Edit: thanks for the clarification Mike, didn't mean to leave you and James out also.

I want to add that the rankings aren't just me and Ian. Mike and, now, James also vote and contribute to the team process.

Two questions..why did Raffaela take such a nosedive when he is performing quite well and do you think that Brannen is finally starting to figure things out or is it just a fluke he is starting to hit a little bit.

That's actually a typo. Rafaela rose from 43 to 39. Thanks for the catch! Brannen is 8 for 51 with 26 strikeouts. This was the first week that he had more than one hit. I will have to see a lot more from him.

Yeah Rafaela had been interesting enough to move up some, but it's still a lot of protection. I really want to move him up but want to see him continue to show progression as the season goes on.

Drohan and Winckowski I would have in the top 20. Also, Bello over Aldo and Thaddeus. I would drop Song out of the top 20 at this point...

[/quote]The two biggest surprises I have here are the massive rise of Cottam and the massive fall of Politi. Would be interesting to hear the staff weigh in on what contributed to this.

And Cottam is at 51.
I'm going to go in and tweak Dick's post - I'm hopeful he won't mind.

In the 60s. Speaking for myself, I need to see it for more than a month. He's still whiffing at a 34.6% rate, which gives me pause, although the increases in power and walk rate are highly encouraging! Getting reports on him will help as well. I do note the following: 1st series (home, BG): 4 G, .286/.375/.786, 2 HR (same game), 2 BB, 8 K 2nd series (home, Brooklyn): 5 G, .167/.474/.250, 0 HR, 6 BB, 4 K 3rd series (Asheville): 5 G, .450/.522/1.050, 3 HR, 3 BB, 7 K (Drive dropped double-digits in multiple games) 4th series (Rome): 5 G, .222/.348/.278, 0 HR, 4 BB, 9 K I think in the era of week-long series, the context of opposing teams and ballparks is going to become very important. Dearden looks like a prime example of that, potentially, based on what happens next.

I agree with Chris on Dearden because you need progression accrued over time to move him up higher in the rankings. Some people feel that after a whole week they should be shot up into the rankings when it takes time to assess their actual progress. You could put him up in the 52nd place and then 2 weeks later he hits the wall and down he goes again.

I mean, the other piece of that is that we're not just ranking based on the stats. Brayan Bello didn't jump to 9 based on his numbers, but rather based on reports on his stuff that squares with the performance and with reports we'd gotten from instructs last fall that his stuff was ticking up.
If he'd been this dominant but with the same stuff, we wouldn't have jumped him nearly as high.

Pretty confident in thinking Duran and Downs will swap at 2 and 3. Howlett should be a big riser and Groome might push his way back into the top 10. I think a could guys in the 40-60 range that will jump are Wu-Yelland and Crawford but I don’t think they’ll be huge jumps.

Risers I care about: Jaxx Groshans, Josh Winckowski, Brandon Howlett, Raynel Espinal, and Eduardo Lopez (was promoted stateside at 19 despite not starting out super hot there).
Potential smaller risers: Tyler Esplin (cut the strikeouts from last season, still young but consistent from last month, including not a ton of power) and Jeremy Wu-Yelland (still killing it, but a big riser previously and basically age-average for the level).
Risers I'm not going to let myself get invested in because I'm afraid their performances are mostly due to age: Joe Davis, Devlin Granberg, and Johan Mieses.
Someone in the past I would have predicted might have rose, but now who would they even replace, but maybe they might move up a spot or so?: Nick Yorke, Brayan Bello (successful in his early this month promotion to Portland looks like).
Potential fallers: Thad Ward had TJ announced this month and what's up with Jonathan Araúz.
People I might have dropped but I'm an idiot: Ronaldo Hernandez, and Ryan Zeferjahn has already been dropped recently but hasn't gotten much better or worse.
