Red Sox cut three more players yesterday: Dylan Hardy, Collin Willis, and Lane Milligan. Hardy was, I believe, the first player in the SoxProspects era to play at 5 levels in one season in 2019. Willis is released without having played for the Red Sox after two good ABL campaigns, including leading the league in hitting in 2019-20 if I'm not mistaken. Milligan was an interesting org player as a catcher/outfielder, but missed all of 2019 due to injury and is 26 years old without having played above Lowell.

Add Kervin Suarez and Everlouis Lozada to the list of cuts. Of note, Ramsey, Guedez, Harrington, Jimenez, Suarez, and Lozada were missing from the milb spring training roster, so those appear to be more announcing cuts that had been decided previously (or were in the making pending health in camp, I guess) than new cuts based on how guys have looked. Biondic, Haworth, and Rusconi were in camp.

Cannot believe they released Haworth. This guy has an mlb splitter which led GVL with 124k’s in 2019. The politics of this club are a joke. I guarantee he is resigned within a week by another team.

[resists urge to post picture of Marc Bolan]
Looks like the migration has begun...
... and yes, I know that's not our Groshans. But one presumes rosters are pretty well set once the players need to know where they're going.

Didn't realize this but Hector Rondon decided to retire. (Apparently Chris DID notice this. I should have read more carefully).

I mean he outpitched pretty much every other pitcher on that GVL team, and has better numbers than many ‘ranked’ prospects, but he wasn’t a high pick or IFA with a big bonus who would make a scout look bad if he was cut. Last spring before the shutdown I saw him on ESPN pitch 2 innings (in a 1st inning mop up) against the Yankees and he had three K’s, so I was waiting to see this year at a higher level, but I’m sure the team has better prospects than this that deserve a look

He had a 4.72 ERA in 2019. He was also older than the average player in low-A that year and would be much older that the average player in hi-A this year (he'll be 24 all year long). I'm sure if the Red Sox thought he was prospect-y he would not have been cut. I do wish him well and hope he gets an opportunity with another organization.

Does anybody have any idea when Kevin McCarthy's opt-out is & how he has looked? I was surprised when he dcidn't make the team out of spring training.

Thanks for the info. Do you think the only reason he isn't on the team is because he isn't on the 40 man?

Baseball America published a list of breakout prospects that scouts saw in minor spring training and 3 Red Sox players appeared on the list. Brayan Bello, Jay Groome, and Blaze Jordan are evidently turning heads. Without going into too much detail, Bello’s three pitch mix is improving and he’s looking more likely to have a chance at remaining a starter. Groome’s stuff looked good again and they put a mid-rotation ceiling on what he was throwing. That might be the most encouraging one. Jordan is evidently crushing fastballs, but needs to improve on breaking balls which could help explain him staying at extended.

Saw Groome hit 97 in the spring...but it looked like he was throwing everything including his spleen into it. In a second inning he dropped down 4 mph.
