They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

They are clearly messing with whatever sleep schedule I might have (12 hour difference).

I have tickets for today’s game. What is the best way to find out when the game is cancelled and which makeup game I am going to?

Weird year so far.... The only AL teams over .500 are Boston, Cleveland, KC, Angels, and Seattle......

Whitlock has been used sparingly of late - any chance he starts tomorrow? Or is Houck eligible to come back up then?

Its snowing pretty hard in Boston right now. Kind of annoying they haven’t given us ticket holders word about tonight yet.

I’m guessing they didn’t announce Saturday starter because they knew it would be Pivetta. It's the turn of the guy who didn't pitch the first game in Minnesota, so it would be Houck if they play tonight.
Weather forecast has the rain turning light at 8 PM but with probabilities from 70% at game time to 81% at 10 PM. The wind is at 16 mph blowing in, so it would be a pretty miserable experience.
A rainout could be made up on Monday, May 3. Both teams have day games on Sunday, Sox in Texas and ChiSox at home. We'd be starting a homestand a day early; they have a game in Cinci at 6:40 PM on Tuesday. We'd end up playing 20 straight games instead of 13, they have off days on 4/26 and 5/6, so they don't have that kind of problem.
We could also extend the current homestand by playing them on the 26th, but they'd have to interrupt a homestand.
Other possibility is Monday 9/27, we extend a homestand begore flying to Baltimore, they extend a road trip after playing in Cinci on Sunday afternoon. That's probably the best option except for it being impossible to make up.

Worth mentioning that optioning Houck a day early is why he's eligible to start tomorrow.

These options all sound terrible. These are Friday night tickets and Monday is way more inconvenient for working folks.

I have this image in my head of red sox executives staring out the window watching it snow/rain all day today, unable to make a decision. Lol.

I have this image in my head of red sox executives staring out the window watching it snow/rain all day today, unable to make a decision. Lol. It was awful out there today! I'm an independent dog walker in Cambridge. I can't imagine them trying to play this game. Hey, maybe it will stop. I for one would not like to play or sit in the stands for tonight's game. As part of the job, I am always checking the forecast. I will be glad to become the Global Weather Moderator..

I was very surprised when I first looked at the schedule to see the Red Sox with 16 home games in April and only 11 road games. The weather for both fans and players is usually horrible for baseball even if the games are played! If they get rained out you the hassle of doubleheaders for players, and as fans you may end up with a ticket for a game that you are unable to attend! It would have been better to schedule more early April games in southern cities. (Harder said than done; however, there are more northern than southern teams....)

So:
Sat. Pivetta (5) Sun. Perez (4); Houck 27th guy Mon. Eovaldi (4) Tue. Rodriguez (5) Wed. Richards (5)
So the two postponements give three of the starters an extra day fr rest, plus give Houck a start.
If the ChiSox just push everyone back a day, that pits our 5 and 6 starters against their 1 and 2. They have the option of keeping Keuchel on Saturday and having Cease pitch on Sunday, but I don't think they do that.
