Four starters making their Red Sox debut and Zeferjahn making his full season debut. Hopefully the pitching goes better today than the last couple of days.

Frank German couldn't make it out of the first. Some tough performances to start the season.

Cannon just hit a bomb over the monster in left for Greenville.
edit: and Danny Santana just followed Cannon's home run with one of his own.

Granberg also hit a home run and just narrowly missed a second one over the mini monster in left for a big double.

Lugo crushed a ball to the RCF wall but the RF made a nice running catch. He's been impressive.

It’s actually semi-impressive how bad the systems pitchers have done to start the year. Trying to think of a pitcher that has had a positive appearance. There’s a few relievers that have done alright but definitely not any starters. Only one direction to go from here.

Organization needs to call a timeout and start the season over. Almost everything, in every aspect, has been disgusting.

Buff vs WooSox pitching: 47 PA 24 REACH Safely 23 retired with one out on basepaths Lucky they're on the road and only needed 24 outs BAA of .353 is 20th of 20 teams
OPS of .469 is 20th of 20 teams Greenville: BAA of .346 and ERA of 10.57 12th of 12. OPS of .630 is 10th of 12

Gilberto is not exactly driving the ball as hoped
System took the first 3 games of the year off like the Sox did
Looks like Winckowski did ok but was done in by his defense. Walked too many guys though

Woo Sox wwith an interesting game. Buffalo had almost as many hits 17 as the Woo Sox had strikeouts 18. Duran off to a smashing start 0-11 with 6 strikeouts. Still want to call him up now?

Buffalo is ridiculously loaded or the Sox pitching is ridiculously bad. That is Toronto's AAA team. Where are they going to go? Toronto is loaded also.

Way too early to draw conclusions about anything at any level for any prospect or team, it’s been one series
Could’ve gone better for us though lol
Just glad to be able to look at box scores again

Especially Kwiatkowski...2.2 innings - 8 batters faced - 8 straight outs - 28 pitches - 21 strikes - 3 strikeouts (2 against the 2 hottest hitters for the Shorebirds). Most dominant pitcher I have seen so far at the Low-A level. Watch this guy!!!

Groome is the one I am keeping my eye on. I have always excused his lack of results due to injury, but my guess is that either he doesnt have it, or the injuries really have derailed him. I thought I saw the reports that he was working 90-91 with his fastball. Am I crazy or was he thought to be a 94-95 type guy. I know his curveball was his calling card, but 90-91 with control issues would be a problem.
My expectations on him have diminished greatly with him to the point where he is getting the treatment I reserved for Henry Owens. When I looked up Henry's boxscores after he pitched, I prayed that they would be mediocre to the effect of 5 ip, 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, 4 strikeouts. I used to consider those positive appearances from Hank.

When I looked up Henry's boxscores after he pitched, I prayed that they would be mediocre to the effect of 5 ip, 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, 4 strikeouts. I used to consider those positive appearances from Hank. Agreed on both counts. When I saw Owens in Portland several years ago he was dominant....even with a 89-92 mph fastball...(on Portland's reputedly fast gun). Sugar plums were dancing. Unfortunately... I mentioned elsewhere that early on Groome was viewed, in some circles, as a possible 1-1. He fell to us at 1-12 and the natives were ecstatic. Yes his curve was deemed his best pitch, but he was thought to possess mid 90s stuff and possibly plus. Of course injuries and resultant lack of development time intervened. Still he had been only 89-92 or so even in healthy interludes. This spring I watched a game where, according to the gun, he touched 97 in the first inning of work. But his delivery seemed very high effort and he had poor command. The next inning he dropped to 91-93 or so. So, early season reports of him nestling back to low 90s does not surprise me. Coupled with less than exemplary control/command, I think this year may see him continue to drop in the SP rankings. As you note/imply there seem to be similarities to Owens' repertoire altho Owens had a change. But the results lag thus far. Groome needs to take a leap.
