Doesn't hurt. Red Sox now have 3/4 players from last year's Red Sox-Phillies trade.

Maybe they can fix him? Why not? If he's not fixed then keep him in Worcester. It's always nice to add to our collection of relievers who cannot throw strikes If he's good they can always rip off the Phillies again in a trade. Either way, I'll always have nice memories of Workman, contributor to two Red Sox world championships.

Boy it'll be glorious if he can teach Seabold his curveball like he did with Barnes* 😂
* The story goes that Barnes, Workman and Ranaudo were waiting for BP to end when the Sea Dogs were playing in Trenton and they were discussing CB grips and BW showed MB his grip encouraging him to try it and it's been his since.

Rest might fix him. He needs to be evaluated physically and slowly built back up. He threw an awful lot of innings in 2019 for a reliever.

Love the move. Solid chance at bouncing back. Had 2 bad outings which doomed him. Alex Cora should be able to help.

Not sold on Workman getting it back, but nothing to lose on a minor league deal.

My guess is Workman has/had some sort of minor injury that he didn't disclose. Nothing too serious but enough to screw up his control and command. That ends up as deep counts and walks and usually hits as batters aren't being put away and they get their timing down during a long AB. Relievers are probably less likely than most players to disclose an injury if it's manageable. There is a financial reason for that. They rarely get long term deals and are always in a position of having to prove their worth. Workman had a couple of good years followed by an incredible year and he was looking at possibly following up as a free agent and getting a big money deal. Maybe for only one year but for a nice chunk of cash. Unfortunately he was horrible in 2020 and when he became a free agent his opportunity had passed.

Awesome! I hope he comes in and shows the goods. He still has plenty of gas in the arm.

Doesn't hurt. Red Sox now have 3/4 players from last year's Red Sox-Phillies trade. Seems low cost. He was ok last year right?? Baseball is a game of ups and downs. The streaks for relievers especially seem pretty crazy.

My plan of rebuilding the system off of Workman’s back has taken another step forward. Can’t wait to flip him at the deadline for another spect

I mean you have to DFA Brewer and give Workman his spot, no? Brewer will definitely clear and in the unlikely event he doesn’t then NOBODY CARES. I feel like letting Workman opt out is needlessly losing depth

I don't know if Workman can get back to being most of what he was in 2019, but if they don't DFA Brewer to give Workman a chance to show Boston if he can be, then the Sox really messed up. Brewer is the definition of "fungible".
