What’s up with Tyler Dearden? The current projection on him is a minor league depth guy, but he’s killing it this year. I’ve been trying to watch some Greenville games but MiLB hasn’t shown any of their series in Asheville.
Pros: 9 XBH in 13 games (.386 ISO) 15% walk rate K rate is high, but not really much higher than it’s been in the past and he’s doing a lot more damage.
Cons: Small sample size (44 ABs) 34% K rate Sub 60% contact rate Probably unsustainably high BABIP (.455)
The cons seem to be larger than the pros, and I think the sample size is too small to make any real observations, but has anyone seen anything new from Dearden? Is this just him having a hot 2 week stretch or is the arrow pointing up after missing a year due to COVID?

Interesting to see Nick Sogard with four homers already this year In 50 at bats. His profile essentially says no power which seems supported by his no homeruns in final college season (229 at bats) and no homeruns in his professional debut (214 at bats) that followed his last college season. Just two homeruns in 3 college seasons covering 497 at bats.

He had 5 doubles in over 200 ABs in 2019. Seems like somebody adjusted their launch angle

I think you're probably right that the cons seem to be larger than the pros...or to put it this way....we should expect his BA to lower (perhaps considerably) which in turn will bring down the entire triple slash line (currently a robust .318/.434/.705 line). That said, I think the power and BB% represent real skills for him, although more in the 10% BB% and .200 ISO range. His swing has always been geared for XBHs. He's at the very least an interesting guy to follow! His OF partner, Tyler Esplin, has a less sexy triple slash line of .228/.380/.333 but nice peripherals including a 16.9% BB% greater than his 12.7% K%. Its a low BABIP currently of .255 contributing to that low BA despite a 84.2 contact rate. Expect his regression to the mean to lift his numbers.

Its turning into a good year for the red sox farmhands. We might see some movement in national ratings on some of our guys.

Casas with the three-run homer, #4 of the year. He’s gonna be a star. Better version of Hosmer

Casas with the three-run homer, #4 of the year. He’s gonna be a star. Better version of Hosmer He's certainly bigger than Hosmer! He already looks like a professional hitter at the plate, just so focused and all business. And the power will certainly put the fear into pitchers - he absolutely lost that one. What is he, 21? He may push into MLB in less than a year and a half with any kind of season in AA. Looks as if that's what he's aiming for.

Casas has a crouch that would make Bobby Murcer proud. Making that strike zone smaller for pitchers.

( votto, bagwell, freeman, goldy, rizzo, raffy, mattingly). I think a few of those you could compare him to reasonably. Although I realize ALL are high expectations almost. But he’s showing serious upside. To me anyways franchise cornerstone upside

One of my favorite things in baseball is when a homerun is so obviously gone that the outfield doesn't even bother with the pretense of giving chase, haha. Casas destroyed that one.

We hope, with a more likeable personality! Teixeira never looked as if he enjoyed the game.

Casas with the three-run homer, #4 of the year. He’s gonna be a star. Better version of Hosmer Well, he got a lot of common with Hosmer: They attended the same high school and he's been hitting an unhealthy number of groundballs (56%)
