An iconic rivalry, renewed, June 4 - 6, that happens to overlap anniversary of the iconic Battle of Midway, we've Sawamura assisting, w/ a couple of Zeroes, to help defeat Yanks.

They won’t do it but they should pitch Barnes in the 8th They can't do that. Barnes is so much better when he's fresh. If he's fully rested batters have almost no chance against him. If he's fatigued his command goes off he gets into deep counts, walks and bombs. He's not Goose Gossage.

What is encouraging about the Sox mach 2021 is that they seem to bounce back well. Bats may be sleepy for a few games, pen can be rocky - then they pull it together and string some Ws. Fun likeable team for the most part - really enjoying the season so far!

Rays lose to Texas 5-4. Scored 2 runs in the 9th and had tying and wining runs on. Kennedy almost blew it, but the Rangers hung on.

Great game tonight. Devers got a fastball and demolished it. I don't think it was a plus fastball, but who cares, he creamed it. He's not Michael Chavis.
Eovaldi looked great against his former team and Sawamura came up huge. That's the guy who I think can take the 8th inning role if need be. He's had his troubles here and there, especially with the long ball, but for the most part he's been throwing strikes, and I think he can help them.
Barnes was his dominating self, which is something that usually wasn't the case against the Yankees.
And so now the Sox have won as many games against the Yankees this season as they've won all of last year in ten tries.
Actually with Houck winning the final game against NY last year, the Sox now have two straight wins against the Yankees after the Yankees beat the Sox 23 times in 28 games since the Sox knocked the Yankees off in 2018.
The Yankees certainly have their flaws. Their offense beyond Aaron Judge is kind of flat, but still the Yankees are the yardstick in which the Sox measure themselves against. When the Yankees push the Red Sox around, you know the Sox are no real threat. But when the Red Sox stand up to the Yankees and handle them, that's when the Red Sox are for real. So it was a good sign that the Sox handled the Yankees tonight. I hope they can handle them at least one more time the next couple of nights.

I've been gone all day and am just now seeing the score.
Does it strike anyone else as funny that our second baseman is outhitting their second baseman ?

I've been gone all day and am just now seeing the score. Does it strike anyone else as funny that our second baseman is outhitting their second baseman ? LeMahieu has a BA of .259 and OPS of .670. The new ball has had quite an affect on the Yankees. Judge OPS .938 Stanton OPO .815 Urshela OPS .721 Everyone else under .700 It shows their players were not as good as their past numbers, and it shows their inflated numbers were a byproduct of their little ban box ball park. I cannot believe so many people anointed them as the best team in the AL. I always thought they were not nearly as good as all the press said, but there is lots of bs that everything NY is great. You could not pay me enough .........

You are right about the ball. I think it was Spier in the Globe today that said the word on the Yankees has been that you can beat them if you keep the in the ballpark (paraphrase). The change in the baseball, makes that a lot easier than it has been the last few years. The Yankees offense has been a paper tiger.

[...] It's great fun to think that they will be paying LeMahieu $15M a year for the next six years, and in the 6th year he will be 37.

I was debating starting a thread, but didn't want it to come off in poor taste. From what I'm hearing is the MLB is only taking samplings of who is doctoring baseballs and not punishing anyone, which means everyone is doing something. It's one of the factors as to why offense is down across baseball. In fact, I think 2 MiLB players were just suspended for doctoring which is probably why Franchy was able to start dominating the moment he was demoted to AAA. What I'm wondering is who on the Sox is likely benefiting the most from this and who we should keep an eye on in 2022 when MLB starts cracking down on this? Edit: it was actually 4 pitchers that were suspended.

What I found even more stunning in looking at the box score is that every one of 6 through 9 in their lineup is batting under .200. We're 1/3 of the way through the season. Not a small sample.

I think they released late this week (Weds/Thurs) to the teams that they would now be enforcing the doctoring and if caught, the pitcher would receive a 10 game suspension. One Tweeter actually (and deliciously) postulated that it may be why Cole had his worst performance and lowest spin rate of the year Thursday night. Would that it were so!

In Colorado he had one season of having ops+ More than a hundred. Comes to the Yankees and has an ops + of 135 and 177. Something ridiculously fishy about that.

There were two horrible calls in the 2003 ALCS that went to the NYY instead of Boston that put them in the WS instead of the Red Sox... O well, by loosing in 2003 it set up the greatest collapse by the NYY, which I will through in Yankee fans’ face until I die.
