Sort of thinking outload here, Van Belle was probably my favorite of the UDFAs from '20, but are we surprised to see him start at Greenville? I get he's older than Zeferjahn, but is seeing BVB in Greenville and Zeferjahn at Salem a mild surprise to anyone else, or more of just a numbers thing with how the rotations are structured?

Revising your opinion upwards of prospects that get aggressive assignments, and downwards of prospects that get conservative assignments is pretty sound prospect hound epistemology.

There was no theory, statement, methodology, or judgement on either player. It was a question of whether it was surprising, given all other UFDAs from '20, and the two college pitchers they drafted are all in Salem. I don't recall claiming BVB was better or worse than Zeferjahn, just older.

My best guess is that the Sox may have more of a developmental plan for Zeferjahn and may want him to tinker with some things at a lower level. Its a complete guess though.

FWIW, we projected Van Belle for Greenville. It made sense, as he was a senior at a major program. I think Zeferjahn in Salem was more surprising.
Neither has been terribly great, but BVB's numbers intrigue me. I wonder what the quality of contact has been against him given that .391 BABIP against a 28/5 K/BB in 25.1 IP. .549 slugging suggests it's not just bad luck, but it's also early yet and High-A for a first pro assignment is pretty aggressive.

For a second there I was thinking Speier was having some real grammar problems. I was also wondering how whether or not he's been activated affected how he was acquired last year.

Winckowski with a pretty solid start against a tough NH lineup that has two top-50 prospects (Martin and Groshans): 5.2IP, 6H, 2ER, 1BB, 5K (97 pitches, 62 strikes)

Arauz doesn’t hit a lot of home runs but every one I’ve seen has been an absolute bomb. He has some sneaky power when he gets a hold of one. Go ahead 3 run shot in the 7th.

Every time I see one, I check his page wondering if his ISO is on the rise, but it’s pretty consistent. Clearly has some power in there, at least to the pull side.
