Really interested in Esplin. He's always had decent or better K/BB ratios (actually i Lowell, but not low-A Greenville) - or at least good BB%. He's a guy that could just put it all together. Just needs to tap into that raw power in games. I remember Alex Speier saying something a few years back about how the organization is way higher on him than the industry is, something about his blast or batted ball metrics I think. Probably explains why he’s batting third and playing center field every day for a pretty good Greenville team at 21-yo. Ever since I read that I’ve always been super intrigued and he just continues to be solid every year. Yeah one thing to point out is that he was a really young HS pick back in the 2017 draft, he was actually still 17 at the time of the draft. His approach numbers are super strong right now in High-A and stand out even more when you consider he's still just 21. In the past, he has hit too many groundballs with GB rates typically at or above 50%. This year, he has seemingly cut that down (43.6%) while increasing his LD% + FB% (56.3%) which is promising to see regarding batting ball data. That said, it hasn't translated to gains in power yet (ISOp = .087, 8 2Bs, 1 HR) but still promising to see nonetheless.

Esplin has also been playing a lot of CF lately. He’s started 14 times in center field, including 8 out of the last 11 games. It’s interesting that he’s getting so much time in center when Cole Brannen is on the team and is a more natural center fielder. At the beginning of the year it was mostly Brannen in CF and Esplin in right but since the start of June they’ve flipped. Esplin is definitely not a natural center fielder but it seems like he can field it competently enough because they keep putting him out there.
