The Salem pitching staff has a number of guys that are having a great start to the year.
Ryan Fernandez: 13.1 IP, 0.00 ERA, 1.05 WHIP Casey Cobb: 22.2 IP, 1.19 ERA, 0.97 WHIP Brandon Walter: 27.0 IP, 1.33 ERA, 0.85 WHIP Devon Roedahl: 23.0 IP, 1.57 ERA, 0.83 WHIP Cody Scroggins: 22.0 IP, 1.64 ERA, 1.32 WHIP Robert Kwiatkowski: 29.0 IP, 2.17 ERA, 0.90 WHIP
They’re all 24-25 year old college guys (Fernandez is 23), so they should be overwhelming Low-A ball, but it’s still impressive. Most of these guys could probably handle a promotion at this point.
Has the loss of short season ball pushed younger guys up, making the college age pitchers’ stats even less reliable?

Why aren't there a bunch of exclamation points after the FCL season starts June 28th?!!!!!

Castellanos has had a really impressive June. Hit a really well struck two run home run just a few moments ago.
Even better Hudson Potts immediately follows with his second home run of the year.

Looking at it on BRef, Walter, Scroggins, and Cobb (happy 25th birthday!) haven't faced a hitter older than them yet, Roedahl has faced just 11 older hitters out of 92, Kwiatkowski has faced just 21 out of 111. I'll add DiValerio, who's faced 23 out of 101. And if you look, the Salem RPs are all older than the Greenville RPs who've had success this year. Fernandez, at "just" 23, has more reasonable splits. There's potential for a big ol' reliever chain promotion in the near future, because there are enough guys in FTM to backfill, with the likes of Bryan Lucas, Osvaldo De La Rosa, Jose Larez, Miguel Suero, etc.

Nick Yorke isn't playing today, was DHing yesterday and didn't play the day before that. Dinged up? Demolishing the Carolina League or what ever they call it now for more than a month must've took a toll on his body 😃

Alexander Montero joined the Salem Red Sox from Fort Meyers. He’s pitching tonight.
Couple walks, couple hits, couple hard hit outs.

Seriously considering suggesting to the other brass that we pool proceeds from the Donation Drive to get Salem an actual media person... Looking forward to seeing who got deactivated.

Ceddanne Rafaela is going through something with his swing.
10.3% K rate in May. 31.2% K rate in June.
He’s been especially prone to strikeouts lately. 1-5 with 4 Ks tonight. 14 Ks in his last 23 ABs.

They weren’t specific.

Old friend Blake Swihart beating up the WooSox out of the Rochester leadoff spot. 2 for 3 with a homer, two walks, four runs scored. He's basically a utilityman now, only five starts at catcher in 28 games.

Not sure what the point of making him a UTIL is until he shows he can hit

I think the point of making him a utilityman is that he's 29 and not really a catcher anymore.
EDIT: He's been hitting great the last three weeks though, after an awful 3-for-29 start to the season. He went 6 for 12 with two walks, no strikeouts, and a homer in the series against Worcester.

Since 2015 he’s been bad at the plate overall. I guess you have to give him a shot to try to make it as a former major prospect, but he seems pretty much hopeless, and never really passed the eye test at the plate. He slapped at the ball from the left side and just never seemed to be in a position to drive the ball. Reminds me of Cecchini in the way he fell off the rails and never could recover even in AAA
