Mike Vasil of UVA to the Mets, ANOTHER Mass native. Going to enjoy following all these kids.

So I really don’t like Fabian. But I think he’s a pretty decent pick. If he can hit .270 or .280 for a couple straight years in the minors, he’s going to be a top 100 prospect because every other tool is loud. At that point, you’ve got a real trade chip. If you keep him and he winds up hitting .180 or .190 at the major league level, he’s probably still a legit major league 4th outfielder because he runs into enough fastballs to be dangerous and provides plus plus defense in the corners and plus in center. But I find it very hard to believe he is even going to be a .230 hitter in the show. I really didn't like Fabian either as he fell off a cliff. However as Bloom liked Fabian I now like Fabian and Ian Cundall had an interesting stat about him which showed he had made an adjustment and was way better over the 2nd half of his season. It's very much a Tampa Bay-Bloom thing to identify players who they think have something which can be fixed. And that is smart thinking as baseball is one of those sports where adjustments and tweaks can make a huge difference. That and a player who can make the adjustment when a tweak is advised based on what scouting has observed. I like the upside opportunity with Fabian, but I generally take a dim view of the "we got a lot of looks later in the season and we think we saw him figure it out" narrative. Didn't work with Bryce Cox, Pat Light or Durbin Feltman (yet), each of whom turned back into a pumpkin upon being drafted. OTOH, it seems to have worked out OK with Dalbec, so I'll have an open mind in this case.

Isaiah Thomas still available too (with an almost impressively bad 3.6% career BB%)

Isaiah Thomas still available too (with an almost impressively bad 3.6% career BB%) I have to think that's the only reason he's falling. He's actually a pretty fun player to watch, and I got tons of time watching him this year. Wonder if he even signs at this point.

Probably the first guy I've been underwhelmed with just because, if you really wanted a power bat, Kavadas was right there, but can't really whine about the 9th round too much. Hopefully they have the ammo for another high-upside high schooler or two in the 11th or later.

I have to be honest, if you are looking for signs, and even potential underslot deals, I love using them on power armed RPs. I like the haul of arm talent they took today to mix with the college bats. Solid haul, even without Jordan Marks.

And that's it for day 2. I wonder if the Red Sox will draft a bunch of prep pitchers tomorrow and see who will take the money.

I am guessing that no one on this site predicted any of these outcomes. I can safely say I was 0-9.

That's the sound that would make Clint Eastwood's ears perk up, bc he can't see too well anymore, and now needs the help from his fancy big city lawyer daughter.

From MLB.com:
Litwicki has earned some Trevor Rosenthal comparisons this spring after switching from a two-seam fastball to a four-seamer that averages 96 mph and peaks at 99. His low-80s slider has its moments too, but he pitched just 12 innings in 2021 while dealing with back and shoulder issues. Strictly a reliever, he's in his fourth year at Indiana after missing 2018 following Tommy John surgery.

I was very skeptical about Fabian when he in discussions at #4 before the season but I love it with the pick at #40. He's a defense-first true CF who has pop. If the strikeout problems persist he could still play as a Jake Marsinick type (11.4 career bWAR). But if there's a correction to be made, he's a guy whose skills are so broad that he could be an All-Star-level performer hitting even if he's only hitting like .270. I'm surprised no one has mentioned JBJ. JimEd back posting after a long layoff! Welcome back.

Another good day. We seemed primed to hit the HS ranks hard tomorrow, especially arms. Should be interesting.
