I'd presume Chris Murphy today as well given his start was supposed to be last night.
"We really don't need the whole commercial break/warm-up routine every time a new reliever comes into the game. It certainly made sense in 1884 when they only switched pitchers when the starter was attacked by pickaxe or caught consumption, and no reliever was warming up because he was busy gambling and drinking." - JD
I still think I'm going to wake up and say "I shouldn't listen to the podcast before bed, I dreamed the Sox signed a guy from Curaçao named Charlie Zink." - KOC
Downs 0-2, he's now on an 0-27 with 15 K's. 10 for 104 since July started.
Guess next year is kind of make or break for him.
It's one thing to kind of jump a level at a younger age and struggle, but to repeat the level and struggle again would be troublesome.
Hopefully next year he goes to Worcester and rakes and either ups his trade value or shows that he can be looked at as somebody who could produce at the major league level for the Red Sox come 2023.
Is there any chance they'd send downs to double A to end the year? It's pretty evident he probably shouldn't be at triple a right now. Maybe sending him down to double A and giving him a breather to try and reset would help him more than just throwing him to the wolves so to speak.

Yeah I think they either need to send him down or give him some kind of breather. Most concerning is his August line which included a 46.7% K rate entering today. K's were too high in July but he also had a brutally low BABIP. In August he has struck out 14 times and put 10 balls in play.

Liu has been impressive early. He’s got 3 Ks through his first 4 outs and is pumping fastballs by people. He’s sitting 93-94 but reaching back for 95-96 occasionally. Lots of weak contact early when they do make contact.
Groome and HRs. Still a very positive year, but that’s the big hurdle he needs to get over. He’s had a ton of gaps in his development, so lacking command isn’t a big surprise.
That’s gotta be it for Chih-Jung Liu and I am very, very impressed. I’ve seen just about every pitcher for Salem this year and this was the best appearance bar none. 5.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 10 Ks. Liu was dominant all night. Got swing and misses on every pitch. Importantly, his velocity was strong all the way through the 5th inning. He was 93-95 for most of the game but was able to repeatedly go back for 97 (and 98 once) according to the stadium gun. He’s got too many pitches for me to track and tell what his offspeeds are, but this was a very very good outing.

I'm very impressed with the Fredericksburg broadcast production values in comparison with Salem's.

The Fredericksburg team is not good, but they put on a very good ball game.

Lots of goings on in the Portland opener -Triston Casas back from the Olympics -Cameron Cannon with the Portland debut, going 2 for 4 with a double in the opener. -Grant Williams home run!!! -Chris Murphy allowing a run that didn't come on a homer
Definitely, but also if I never have to watch Salem's shot-from-above broadcast again it'll be too soon.
One of the main reasons I want Yorke's promotion: To stop watching the Salem's broadcast ever again 😂
He's definitely the most exciting guy there, but Salem has a good number of exciting guys and that doesn't look like it'll be changing all that soon with Jordan's surprisingly mysterious promotion and Mayer possibly getting a taste there this season.
So get used to it is what I guess I'm saying.

Also, and don’t quote me on this because I’m very bad with faces, but I’m pretty sure Blaze Jordan at least is in the dugout with Salem. McDonough too. They weren’t in the dugout yesterday so that’s a step in the right direction to getting them on the field.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago here that it seemed Downs was overmatched. The replies at the time were to let him play thru it. I am worried that this year may set him back mentally and psychologically. We'll see.
