Yeah I think they either need to send him down or give him some kind of breather. Most concerning is his August line which included a 46.7% K rate entering today. K's were too high in July but he also had a brutally low BABIP. In August he has struck out 14 times and put 10 balls in play. I mentioned a couple of weeks ago here that it seemed Downs was overmatched. The replies at the time were to let him play thru it. I am worried that this year may set him back mentally and psychologically. We'll see. Worried about him mentally? I’m worried he just can’t hit.

Brandon Howlett had a great run in June but has been ice cold recently. 4 for 33 with 14 strikeouts and no extra-base hits in August. .141/.253/.259 with 35 Ks in his last 99 PA over 24 games.

Red Sox put up 7 in the top of the 10th, but half the credit for that goes to the carousel operators on the Fredericksburg pitching staff. They walked in four runs before a couple hits brought in the rest.
Stars of the game are definitely Liu and Yorke. Yorke is clearly the best player on the team in my opinion. I take him over Jimenez every day of the week. Rafaela was another guy with a good game. Only 1-4 in the box score, but he hit the ball hard repeatedly and had a couple nice plays at shortstop. Lugo, Decker, and Jimenez had a couple decent at bats each where they hit the ball hard but it just didn’t fall.
On the mound, besides Liu, Cobb and Roedahl are alright. They’re both probably too advanced for A ball to be honest. Roedahl pitches off his offspeed stuff, which works here. Not sure how it’ll work up the ladder. I’ve seen them both a couple times and think Cobb is probably the better of the two. He was getting his fastball up into the mid-90s and his breaking ball was decent.

I believe that the more prudent move would be a phantom injury, followed by a 10-day decompression/coaching session, followed by a "rehab" assignment in either Ft. Myers or Salem, just to get his feet back on the ground.
The risk of sending him down to Portland is that he's already so wound up that he can't hit there either and it starts to really spiral.
I think we can all agree that sending him to Worcester after almost no experience in AA was not Chaim's best decision in the past year.

Honest question - was that Bloom's call? I'd assume a collaboration between the farm director et al. with Bloom empowering his staff to make adequate decisions.

Yorke is now 6th in the league in slugging. Everyone ahead of him is 3+ years older.
