A bit surprised to not see Buttrey or Cuevas on there.

Surprises to me not making the team were Guerrero, Cuevas and Augliera (could one of the pitchers jump to Salem?).
I expected Buttrey to start in Lowell. I am assuming Marquis made Salem as the 4th OFer.
The Salem lineup should be extremely deep (Marrero, Coyle, Jacobs, Cecchini, KDLC, Swihart, Renfroe, Ramos, Garcia).
Mathew Price?

The Greenville lineup looks like it could have some growing pains but the pitching has great potential with Johnson, Light, Montas, Kukuk and Garcia.

I missed Augliera, that's a surprise to me too. As a college senior with good control, Salem might makes sense for him. His ability to pound the strike zone might've given him too little resistance in Greenville. I wouldn't have guessed Cuevas for Salem, but maybe. He pitched so well at Lowell last year that I don't see a lot of value in having him repeat it. Stuff-wise, though, Greenville seems like it would be the spot for him. I would've pegged Buttrey on a similar development path to Owens. He's an older high school arm who I don't see having much trouble at Lowell. They may be just keeping him in ST to keep his innings down though, as his drop in velocity last year might be a concern.

That's a pretty ignorant comment. The system - all minor league systems - have to have many org guys and they are very necessary to roster building.
In addition, Koback in particular from that group actually has some skills that might take him a long way.

very disappointed in greenville roster. do not understand why roberson, johns, koback, or tutocy [are on the roster] Roberson is the 3rd catcher. He'll likely start on the DL. Standard Red Sox MO to have three catchers on each team, with the 3rd on DL/standby. (Roberson, Escobar, Rosario) Johns will likely serve as a utility guy off the bench or on DL/standby. Not everyone can be a star. Every team needs a bench player who only needs to get into 1-2 games per week. (Johns, Natoli) Koback is a 10th round pick. While he didn't impress last year, another year to play every day won't hurt. With whom would you like to replace Turocy? If Jerez or Margot were ready, they would be there. Based on the Greenville roster, one can definitely see where the Red Sox could use an upgrade in talent (1B, lower level OF) in the system.

I think Brian Johnson isn't long for Greenville as long as he shows he isn't scared to pitch. Guys with good command tend to not be challenged enough there.

To me this is the most interesting decision with the Greenville roster. Pushing the breaks a little on Jerez and Margot. I can understand holding them both back, but I'd at least like to see them challenge Margot a little by putting him in Lowell.

Profile is more of an org player. Older player who signed for minimal money from the 10th round. Would you mind sharing what it is that you've seen from him that makes you think he's better than that?

There was no way Margot would go to Greenville to begin the year. He hasn't been state-side much too long and is not like he is an older guy like Quevedo. He most likely goes to Lowell unless he tears it in XST and they may push him a bit. The guy that I would have liked to see here was Buttrey but I think we could see him in the second half if and when Brian Johnson is promoted. If he has trouble demolishing Low-A hitting then thats a worst pick than I originally thought.

A bit surprised that Light didn't jump to Salem... I thought that was the advantage of the earlier draft and more time in Lowell for these college guys. Maybe cause he was a Jr. College player?

They've been doing that to pitchers lately. If they pitch well they get promoted pretty soon.

Neither was Bogarts and he played at Greenville the year after appearing in the DSL. Is Margot's talent not on the same level?

Neither was Bogarts and he played at Greenville the year after appearing in the DSL. Is Margot's talent not on the same level? Bogaerts played in XST at the beginning of that season, he didn't start right out in Greenville, so they'd be being more aggressive with Margot than they were with Bogaerts to start him in Greenville at the start of the season. And anyway, I don't think it's fair to expect anyone's talent to be on the same level as Bogaerts; Margot strikes me as a guy who actually could make a Bogaerts like jump to Greenville out of XST, but I don't think it's something you should really expect (it was a shock when Bogaerts made the jump) and it doesn't mean anything negative about him if he doesn't make that jump.

Neither was Bogarts and he played at Greenville the year after appearing in the DSL. Is Margot's talent not on the same level? You didn't read or understand what I said. Bogaerts didn't begin the Year with Greenville he was in XST and played his way to Low-A by mid season. I definitely left the door open for Margot to do that but I wouldn't expect that. I haven't seen Margot and I'm sure Chris and others would be able to answer the talent question better but reading their reports I was more impressed with what they said about Bogaerts back then.
