Disappointed that Tim Hyers not returning. He has been a big part of the Sox offense since he became Hitting Coach.

Tom Goodwin was not brought back by the Red Sox. Separately, Alex Speier is reporting that Tim Hyers declined the Red Sox's offer to return next year.

A little bit eyebrow raising if the Red Sox wanted Hyers back and they couldn't convince him to come back.

Hitting Coach & Assistant Hitting Coach vs Co-Hitting Coaches
What exactly is the difference and why would Hyers not see that as a negative? Especially considering the runs/game metric over the past 4yrs while under the previous arraingement.

Especially considering the runs/game metric over the past 4yrs while under the previous arraingement. If he's getting paid the same and has the same responsibilities, I can't imagine he'd have cared. Sounds like it was more about promoting Fatse than anything.

Interesting that Hyers jumped ship for the Rangers. He worked with the Rangers manager when they were both with the Dodgers, so maybe it was a friendship thing, but it’s still interesting that he would rather be on the… Rangers… than the Sox. Does make you wonder whether players weren’t listening to him, as some here were speculating during the season

Certainly appears to be a story that hasn't come out yet

Ah...so it is THAT Luis Ortiz. I wondered about that. I remember him being a good hitting prospect without many walks. I'd think of him a bit when I'd see Wilton Veras play 3b for the Red Sox in the late 90s. I remember the trade was originally reported as Otis Nixon and Ken Ryan to Texas for Jose Canseco, but then it was corrected to Otis Nixon and Luis Ortiz for Canseco. I remember being relieved because I mistakenly thought Ken Ryan would be the 1995 closer for the Red Sox, but it didn't happen. He was a disaster and they traded Frankie Rodriguez to Minnesota to rent Rick Aguilera to close, and after the 1995 season Ryan was traded, along with Lee Tinsley (opening up CF for Dwayne Hosey!), to Philadelphia for Healthcliff Slocumb, who a year and a half later, was turned into Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe. So thankfully it was Ortiz and not Ryan who went in that Canseco deal. And yeah, full disclosure, I was all aboard that Nixon for Canseco deal. Didn't give any thought to steroids. Just looked forward to a Mo Vaughn/Jose Canseco middle of the order. Wanted them to be interesting after the 3 years of Butch Hobson malaise. Got more than I bargained for. 1995 was a joy ride until they ran into the Cleveland buzz saw (they never should have had to play them in the first round! They should have gotten the Mariners instead of the Yankees).
