Interesting guys. Maybe the fastest guy in baseball, coming off a torn ACL. .235/.311/.354 Steamer projection (which doesn't know he tore his ACL). Defensive metrics think he's nothing special

For such a speedy guy, his defensive metrics are significantly underwhelming. Then again, high OBP guy in the minors and a doubles machine in AA and AAA, so maybe they can fix something. If you can stash him in the minors and pull him out as a PR for playoffs could be worth something. Not sure how long he'll last on the 40 man, though.

This is a guy best used in the Dave Roberts post-season pinch runner role. Having him toward the end of the season could be useful. Having him now is meh...especially if they protected him over some of their more deserving prospects, which I doubt Bloom does. I guess this is just another "tinkering around the margins" kind of thing he does. He probably winds up elsewhere soon.

Locastro apparently grew up a Yankee fan and hates the Red Sox. Bloom really has a knack for toying with Yankee fans.

I pulled this out of the 40-man thread.

The Red Sox had Danny Santana on their playoff roster this past year. There's no reason why they couldn't put Locastro on there instead in 2022 after he spends the summer in Worcester as an emergency OF call-up. Who knows, maybe Geddy can teach him to hit, too.
"So, Timmy, what's your lefty swing look like?..."

Really good speed, stealing, beating out grounders, and covering ground in the OF. Fun video.

NY acquired him when they went into that COVID nosedive. He got inj. almost immediately. Never showed what he could do with that great chance with everybody infected.

Little downside if it does not work, there is always Worcester or being cut loose. We can expect more of this.

Two years old, but still silly enough to make me smile This is a guy who, if he learns how to bunt to get on could have a .400 OBP.

This is exactly what I was thinking....I hope the Sox let this guy exploit his speed and not push him into a launch angle swing approach. He needs to bunt and hit the ball on the ground and then put pressure on the defense.

Not that familiar with Billy Hamilton other than he never lived up to high expectations....Locastro might never be a star either, but seems like his best opportunity would be by maximizing his elite speed.

Nobody gets hit by more pitches than this guy, it is kinda hilarious. He makes zero effort to get out of the way

Got injured immediately after the Yankees pulled their rain out BS on us. Baseball gods unfortunately victimized him, he didn’t deserve it

Questions though, like what does this say about their thoughts on Duran, nothing? The Sox don't try to steal bases, will that change?

He's likely not part of the Red Sox 2022 plans. 2. I'm assuming the Red Sox don't try to steal because stealing bases is generally a low % play when trying to score runs. But they also haven't had great base stealers in a while. As Tim Locasto is 31/34 in SBA, it's likely he's good enough that they would try if/when he's on base (I don't think there's much point of having him as a 4th OF candidate if you won't let him steal).

I would imagine that Duran will be headed back to AAA next year or maybe another team.

Most likely that Duran goes to Worcester, but it is not a foregone conclusion. He is getting to an age at which he is not going to be an afterthought without getting a full look in ST. The possibility has to be recognized, regardless of the odds, that Duran turns out to be the guy we all wanted him to be. Then he becomes the CF and Kiké moves back to 2B.
