JBJ is probably the full-time RF now, but that's a nightmare scenario too. Between Kiké, Vazquez, now JBJ. I can see the bottom part of the order becoming a malcontent.

Something tells me Scwarber to LF, JBJ to CF, Dugie to RF and Kiké to 2B. I see it as JBJ to CF and Kiké to RF. HUGE upgrade in defense.

I like Jackie....but why? Renfroe was a much needed bat in the lineup. This doesn't make sense since now Kiké is no longer in center. JBJ has an OPS under .500 and was worth -.7 bwar last year, why are you assuming he waltz's into the starting lineup?
edit - starting lineup, not startling lineup.

There's no way Jackie is starting. He's 32 coming off a .163/.236/.261 season
He's in the deal as a way for Chaim to buy prospects, and because they'll take him as a backup.

I think everyone is assuming that Jackie is already slotted in as a starting OFer... let's hold that thought for a bit. I'd be pretty surprised if they don't get someone (Suzuki, Schwarber) more likely to start over Jackie.
We know the Sox needed a 4th outfielder. We know they need a lefty bat off the bench. Jackie fits both of those categories. Don't worry about the salary.

Wow I'm just getting to this now. But we all knew Renfroe was gone didn't we. I'll reserve judgement but so far I would have liked to get Pitching for the RF and possibly got back Suzuki as FA --though not real confident of that at all--or another possibility.I'm surprised they are willing to pick up Jackie's check.
Ok but are the prospects good enough?

If the Sox don't land Suzuki, then JBJ is your starting RF. I don't see it as pumping tires.

Kinda looks like Duran is going to be packaged away I think it means the opposite: Duran starts the year at Triple-A with the hope he rakes, shows he can hit in the majors and pushes JBJ to the bench.

Crazy how the only right fielder alive didn't even play in the majors last year...

Binelas has an interesting bat but I wouldnt trade Renfroe to bring back JBJ's feeble bat. I was happy they let him go before he totally tanked. He tanked worse than I could imagine so now they bring him back?
And they lose a 30 HR bat to bring JBJ back?
Please tell me the plan isnt to move Kiké to RF and that's it.
I hope it's to move Kiké to 2b and either bring back Schwarber for LF and move Verdugo to RF or win the bidding for Suzuki.
I'm guessing JBJ is in a strict platoon with Kiké in CF as Kiké plays 2b against righties and shifts to CF against lefties with Arroyo at 2b against lefties?
I'd rather they have traded Renfroe to Oakland as ok partial payment for Manaea or Bassitt if that was ever possible.
Hope JBJ can hit .240. Geez.

? JBJ has experience in RF Fenway and Kiké was a better defender in CF last year.

I’m saying that assuming we sign another bat-first OF. Duran’s OF defensive profile just doesn’t fit with this staff. He’s a minus defender currently and hasn’t really shown any flashes of plus defense. Bloom’s thesis is basically build around strikeouts and fly balls and make sure your defense is oriented around that

Don’t see why the A’s would want to take on a guy like renfroe when they’re rumored to be dumping everybody I was thinking he had a couple of years of control left and was only slated to make 7 million. Honestly I thought Renfroe might go for high leverage bullpen arms, not the corpse of JBJ's bat. I get that the prospects were the big part of the deal, but other than Binelas bat being interesting, there's nothing there I push Renfroe out of the way for. Hope they land Suzuki.

I know there's plenty of offseason left, but right now I'm pretty sure I hate this. I'm absolutely not ok with JBJ being a starting outfielder for us.

Guys, JBJ did not just displace Kiké as the team's starting CFer. This is this year's Ottavino - an overpriced contract Bloom takes on to buy prospects. JBJ is the 4th outfielder. I think it means they're probably adding Schwarber to replace Renfroe (with Verdugo to RF), but it could be someone else.
