The idea is that this is for players who've made full-season (hence no 2021 draftees, including Mayer), and obviously they can't bring in anyone on the 40-man. So to me, the only guys you might've expected to see who aren't there are Wilkelman (likely just thought of as on young side for this group) and Santos.

Only other guys that are light snubs are Brandon Howlett and maybe Cam Cannon.

Not open. It's also only a week long and they're probably not playing games, so I'm not sure it'd be worth it. Some guys are going to have Zoom media availability though (Brian Abraham on Monday, players apparently to come after that over the course of the week), and I am going to try to be on all of it.
We're really hoping spring training will be open, as that's just so much more productive. I'm also not even kidding we've discussed going to Greenville for Joe Davis bobblehead night.

Ray, re: McDonough, as mentioned above, Hickey is the only 2021 draftee attending save for Kavadas, who makes sense to bring in so they can have their coaches start working with him. Abraham said yesterday on the media availability they saw it as a good opportunity for him as a catcher to start catching some of their guys. I'd add that it's also because the catcher depth is super thin - the only other catcher I could've seen them inviting is Marrero given that Wong and Hernandez are on the 40.
Abraham also mentioned that most of the guys attending are going to stay for the optional mini-camps between now and MLST.
He also said yesterday that while Politi and German are going to work as RPs going forward, Shugart might be more of a multi-inning reliever. I need to run back the video to make sure I heard him right though.
I also tried to get an update on Ward but he kind of ducked giving any specific timeline. He's throwing but we knew that.
The rest was pretty general. He did mention a number of times, and I then asked him about, the fact that they're integrating a lot of sports science work with these guys. I'd noticed that they had been doing a fair amount of hiring in that area this offseason so it seems like that might be a point of emphasis for them going forward.

So based on the photos apparently Northcut is there too.
Part of me really hopes that he just kind of showed up and was all like "can I play with you guys too?" and the team begrudgingly responded with something like "fine just don't take any of Casas or Jordan's reps."

Whenever I see Yorke, physically, he reminds me of Ian Kinsler. Put him next to Blaze Jordan and he becomes Dustin Pedroia.
