Their in-zone miss rates are practically identical. Mayer's chase rate is a little bit higher. Both are great against velocity (Mayer a bit better) and both produce terrific exit velos (Casas better). Been doing this for a long time. Spare me the sarcasm. Have fun with your Low-A strikeout rates though while you assume we're using RBIs or something stupid. Lol Why you seem pissed? I wasn’t sarcastic or anything, I was legitimately curious about the thought process behind it, sorry if it seemed different. "Didn’t even raise an eyebrow?" comes off as incredibly sarcastic.

Love the list for July! Wondering how close Lobo got to cracking the top 60?

Love the list for July! Wondering how close Lobo got to cracking the top 60? Not necessarily "close", but he got on the back of a couple lists in the 60-80 range. The DSL guys, particularly ones who weren't exactly bonus babies, usually merit a "wait and see" attitude until we literally see them or we get reports.

Teenage SS driving the ball in full season ball are gonna get a lot of shine, and deservedly so. Has he been an unstoppable dynamo in Salem? No, but he’s been pretty damn good, k-rate be damned!
Basically the debate for Casas vs Mayer comes down to upside vs proximity. Casas is 1B only so he’s gonna really need to hit to be an impact major leaguer. I think he probably will have no problems doing that but its certainly fair to go with a teenage SS with a pedigree playing well in Salem over him. He has more ways to impact a game. I probably lean that way myself.
Nice to see Top 10 Ceddanne and Big Winck, that’s my backend starting pitcher!

This is pretty much spot on for two guys who I still think of as 1A and 1B (pun not intended but I'm not deleting it either...). Put it this way - I can't see a team asking for Casas in a trade and saying no if the Red Sox counted with Mayer. I absolutely could see a team doing that in the opposite situation, asking for Mayer and getting Casas as a counter.

Super excited to see Ceddanne in the top 10, quickly become one of my binky prospects. A question I have for the team with Bello passing Yorke is how have opinions changed on those guys this year? Obviously given results the switch is reasonable, but wondering if Bello has gained a lot of shine, Yorke has lost a lot, or if it's been more subtle in both directions.

I'll also be interested to see how quickly Ward and/or Mata rise if their rehabs go well.

Very happy with the depth in the system. I think you can order the prospects at the top any way you’d like, because they all have star potential but aren’t anywhere near locks either.

It's nice to see five P's, all at AA or higher, in the top 10. That actually understates it because Mata is the only one of the five who isn't at AAA or in The Show and his development was stunted by the TJ. If you go to No. 11 (Seabold), six of the top 11 at P's.
All six are candidates to be contributors at this time next year. One, Bello, could be a major rotation piece a year from now.
Adding quality young P is the best way to avoid the annual anguished discussion about how badly we need to trade for BP upgrades.

Obviously given results the switch is reasonable, but wondering if Bello has gained a lot of shine, Yorke has lost a lot, or if it's been more subtle in both directions. Much, much more Bello rising than Yorke falling. Yorke has had some injury issues this year and his performance has sputtered, which probably made the switch a tad easier but the long-term view on Yorke hasn't really changed. As far as your other question about Mata and Ward - there's obviously quite a bit more space for Ward to rise. We discussed Mata vs. Walter for #5 and decided to wait that out. But, rankings-wise, while Mata was ranked #2 at his peak, he wasn't regarded in the category as anyone in the current top 4. As much as we like Walter, there's a pretty big gap between him and Yorke. For Ward, it's not hard at all to see him sliding back into the Top 15 or so range if he re-establishes himself. That's hardly a given though, since he hasn't really gotten regular reps since 2019.

I think EP and Blaze should be switched. Other than that i agree with the whole top 15 besides Bleis being above Rafaela 😂

The next rankings update will be August 5. We needed extra time to bake in draft signings and any 8/2 trade deadline transactions.
I also happen to be on vacation on August 5, so there's a chance the update could get pushed to August 7.

After Kavadas at #1 it’s anyone’s game.
All jokes aside, I’m curious to see how Romero, Anthony, Coffey, and Brannen settle in. Obviously they all have potential, but the depth in the farm is better than it was a few years ago so, it’s hard to peg spots for them in my head.

Are we going to see Luis Perales as the biggest riser? I know he's SUPER young and has been limited to 3 innings per start but he has been very impressive.

Wink hits 50 innings less than 24 hours before the update? Does he last another month in the rankings?

Yes still eligible, we set eligibility as of August 1. He'll graduate next month though.

August rankings are up!
Three caveats: (1) we didn't agree on everything, some disparity over where Roman Anthony should be ranked; (2) we're working with limited info on several of the draftees and acquisitions, so to some extent those initial rankings are throws at a dartboard that could vary significantly once we see those players live; and (3) this was a tough month to get the rankings out just due to work, vacations, short turnaround time, etc. Would have loved to have dug in more and discussed but we wanted to get something out in early August.

Oh man, Bleis is an 8 upside? Was he always that, and I just didn’t notice, or did he get bumped up?

Is this all based on projections, Mike? And do you give added weight to prospects who are higher up in the system - i.e., continuing to advance - vs. those down in A-Ball and lower? Thanks!

Did I miss something or is there a reason why Koss dropped so much? Was he involved in Watergate or something I’m not aware of?
