As there is no current MLB spring training, there should be a thread for information pertaining to minor league spring training updates. I would hope some of the sports writers that cover the Boston Red Sox will be reassigned to the minor league players as the camp starts Sunday.

Went to Jet Blue Park this morning. Was told the back fields are closed not only to the public but also the press. I also asked for a schedule of the minor league games and was told they are not being given out. The employees I talked to had very little information about when things might open up or minor league schedules might be available. The phrase "I just work here" was heard more than one.
The team store was open and it looked like they were giving tours of the park but the back fields were not accessible.

Anyone know if the back fields have been opened to th public now that the Rule 5 draft has been cancelled and the scout ended? In the event you have no access to the many media folks who just now announced this on Twitter--they're open tomorrow! 9am to 1pm daily through March 16 (MLB games start the 17th; presumably there's still access after that). Use the west entrance.

Interesting. One thing I wonder about with this year's compressed spring training is how many MLB players will be taking the places of minor leaguers I want to shoot getting extra work in minor league games. Security is pretty relaxed when it's all MiLB players but everything changes when the fans follow the MLB players back. Before games start they have a lot more bodies to go around, extra fencing to separate fans and players, etc., but once that staff is working inside the ballpark it might be hard to manage.

If anyone sees anything definitive about minor league schedules or the complex staying open past today please let me know. I’m trying to plan a couple days off to take a trip down. Thanks!

Went to the back fields today. Asked at the security check point whether the back fields would be open one the big league games were open and was told by the guy there they would not be. But latter was told by another guy that he had been asked to work Saturday at the back fields so his guess is the minor league games will be open to the public at least on day the Red Sox major league team is playing away games. It sounds like it may be a staging issue on the days the Red Sox are playing at home. I am still not sure whether the back fields sill be open in the mornings at all after today. The people who work there are very nice but are not given any information by upper management people. I asked again for a schedule of minor league games and no one I talked to had one or had even seen one. Same with a roster for the minor league player. Nothing.
Today there was one game at 1:00 with the Twins, not the Rays as Spiers indicated.

Hart started today for the Red Sox against the Twins. He went the first 3 innings and only gave up 1 hit. Unfortunately that hit was a HR and followed a walk. Could not get anywhere near the radar gun behind home (too many players who were not playing today standing there) so I do not know how hard he was throwing.
The first Red Sox hitter of the day, Rafaela, homered to dead center. The next 3 guys (Cannon, Wilson, and Reed) also got hits off of somebody named Gipson-Long. In the third inning Wilson hit a long solo hr to right for the Red Sox, Howlett struck out twice.
Hope the spelling in this post was better than the prior post Sorry about that.

Is there any coverage of the minor league games today? Any updates? It's on MLB Network and NESN. Dalbec hit a towering HR to LF. There's a video of it on the front page of MLB.com that I can't figure out how to link here. Oops, sorry, I thought this was the MLB spring training thread and didn't read your post carefully. lol

One thing I forgot to mention from my visit to the back fields yesterday. There wee signs up saying that parking is now $12 and payable by credit cards only. I assume, as in prior years, that is only for days the Red Sox major league team is playing at home. In past years they took cash and if you went to see the minor league practices in the morning of a Red Sox home game and left by noon you could get your parking money back. Not sure how that will work now that they are only taking credit cards. Heading home today so I am hoping someone else might be going to the minor league games the next few days and will let us all know anything interesting they see.

For what it's worth, I was told we would be able to access the back fields next week without a pass. Does that apply to all? Dunno.
