Up: Downs, Jimenez, Lugo
Down: Yorke, Walter, Winckowski
My heuristic is: the worst way to predict the future is to project present trends forward. So I'm doing the opposite.
Blasphemy, how dare you!!! Yorke is going to be cruising up to AA by August and I can't wait to see him play in Portland. 365/420/610 OPS >1000, there is no holding him back. I was thinking down for Yorke, Casas, and Mayer. Not because I think all three will be down, but odds are great one of them struggles… then you nailed it!

I thought about down for Casas, since he'll be in AAA for his first full season and may struggle out of the gate. He's got nowhere to go but down in the rankings... or up to the majors.

Leaving aside the obvious guys
3 up Noah Song -- will return to the mound in July, and by end of season early September will be flashing his stuff making him the Sox best SP prospect.
Nathaniel Cruz -- don't know anything about him compared to Winkleman or Perales, who each have also gotten a shout out in the past year and a half, but I'll take a flier on him making the Bello leap into the top 20.
Alex Binelas - his pre-draft pedigree matched his post-draft year at Milwaukee. I suspect he'll push into the top 10.
Honorable mention: Nathan Hickey -- In a position of need, surely the Sox saw something in him to make his bat take him into the top 20.
3 down Downs - too many holes and struggles to be explained by his age advancement struggles.
Groome -- Always tantalizing, and lefties live forever, but he is too inconsistent to be more than a dream.
Lugo -- I keep hearing about his tools, and his stats were decent, but I just don't see the power or bat skills to have him break through.

3 down 1. Cameron Cannon= was a mistake pick and continues to be a mistake. 2. Fitsgerald= he has a great spring training gets a call up and can't hang with the big boys. 3. Tanner Houck=I hope i am wrong about him because i love this kid. But I think down the road he becomes our closer and not just a closer but one of the best. I dont know why i feel this way.
3 up. 1= Groome starts a little slow but gets so good possible call up. 2.= Dalbec= I hope I'm wrong about this because I love Casas, But he delays Casas callup . good problem to have. 3. Mayer blows away the minors.
To me this is just fun I dont take hope this happens. But baseball is a long season.

I just have one up for now. Ceddanne Rafaela. I know he is not supposed to be able to hit and I know it is just spring but the one game I saw him in he was the best hitter on the field and every time I read anything about the Red Sox in the paper he is always getting a hit. A lot of those hits seem to be for extra bases.

3 up: Rafella, Bello, Walter 3 down: Downs, Potts, Rosario This one's in the bag. Can I get my $$$ now ? Eh, I wouldn't bury Downs quite yet. .230/.337/.419 vs. IL average of .245/.335/.404 Nothing to write home about, to be sure, but .255/.375/.447 in his last 13 cutting his K rate in half after that dreadful start with the 50% k rate. He can still figure it out.

He can still figure it out. He's also still 3.4 years younger than the league.
In his AAA career, he's faced older pitchers in 475 PAs and he's faced younger pitchers in 16 PAs.
If he can get through this season with league average numbers, including in K and BB rates, that will be a huge win in my eyes.

I think you should ask for your money now. The three up are legitimately pretty good, the three down were the lowest hanging fruit of all time I debated between Lugo and Walter for the three up. That based on Keith Law's pre-season dark horse. I went through his numbers and he actually started showing a significant increase in power at the end of last year. I'd take bows but I was the originator of this annual thread many many years ago and I've had my fair share of clunkers.

I'm not actually sure I'd count Rosario as down. He's only 22 and really improved across the board from last year and as the season progressed. More than doubled his Iso, slashed his K rate, improved his already-solid BB rate. Not close enough to have him on the 40-man roster, but rankings-wise I don't think he's moved. He'd still be in the 40-50 range for me.
