Nathanael Cruz is making a rehab appearance in the FCL today.
ADD: Jedixson Paez relieved him and is having a very Jekyll and Hyde game. He’s let up 5 runs on nine hits but he’s also struck out eleven batters without administering a walk.
The game cast has him at seven innings pitched so far, but I’m a little hesitant to believe that. That seems like a lot for rookie ball. I don’t know if that’s a box score error that will be corrected later or whether Paez is really pitching seven innings.

Yeah, there's no chance that's correct, especially given that it's not like he wasn't allowing any hits. Your instinct is a good one. They don't let guys in rookie ball face 30 hitters.

Jedixson Paez with an interesting line assuming the box score is right: 7IP, 9H, 4ER, 0BB, 11K

Box is fixed. Paez went 5, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 9. Francis Hernandez threw the last 2.

Kavadas is saying he doesn’t care about Binelas and Northcut blocking him. He wants to go to Greenville. Homers again to continue his insane June.
Two for two with a home run and two walks so far. Now batting .273 with a 1.006 OPS on the season.

Scouting the stat line, but Blaze seems to be doing a very nice job as a 19 year old. He seems to slide through the cracks here. What are we looking at with him. Is the downplay that he is a corner bat/bad defense only guy? Was it the slow start this year? Can we expand on what we have with him?

The combo of him having the 10th best strikeout rate in the Carolina league as a teenager + his big time raw power let's you dream on his potential to have a serious breakout at the plate at some point.
He looks to me like he might end up being rough in the field even at 1B, so he's gonna have to really murder the ball.

Yup. Does that about once a week. Nice to have a plus defensive CF who moonlights as a strong defensive SS.

Lots of options here. I'm curious what makes you think it potentially would. CF is his better position and the Portland roster lends itself to his playing CF. Unless you're saying you think he'll stop playing short? I don't think that'll happen either. Rafaela is by far the top prospect on that roster, so his development is going to trump whatever else is going on.

Given that any prospect can help a team either by playing mlb or by going in a trade, isn’t it wise to give Rafaela more or at least sufficient reps at SS, the more valuable defensive position? Does perceived future mlb need in CF and RF and the paucity of OF prospects come into play?

Plus defender everywhere and adaptable enough to be moved daily. I don't disagree though that he's the best CF prospect we have. He might also be the best SS prospect we have depending on Xander's future.

Does perceived future mlb need in CF and RF and the paucity of OF prospects come into play? If he's better in center field, he's better served trade-value wise playing that position though, no? It's not like we're talking SS vs 1B in terms of defensive value. They're playing him based on their development plan for him. Keep in mind he started playing outfield last year - it's possible that just feel he needs the reps more there. I'm curious what makes you think it potentially would. He might also be the best SS prospect we have depending on Xander's future. Consider that Holt didn't play anything other than middle infield until AAA, and at that level he only added 3B. I think SS 1x a week I AA is fine for him. He's got plenty to continue working on at the plate, etc.
