Also Diego Rodriguez's first game since 6/16. DSL squads slowly getting healthier (although getting a second healthy catcher on the Red team would probably be a good thing...)

Alvaro Mejias with 4 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 5 Ks. This is the first time this year he’s pitched four innings. He’s gone 2, 3, and 2.2 IP so far. In 11.2 IP so far, he’s struck out 18 batters.

It's actually his first time ever going 4 innings. His longest outing last year was 3 innings (he only had 16.2 IP last year).

He's 20 in the DSL, but Simon Pacheco has had a great season so far as a reliever: 17IP, 5H, 0ER, 1BB, 16K

Just back from watching the FCL Sox in Sarasota with steveofbradenton where Sox were playing the Orioles.
The day was typical Florida for this time of year...full sun, heavy, sweltering. Temp was 92 with feel like of 103...We left in the 7th..
Observations that we made:
Sox team almost universally looks lithe and athletic.
Yes, Bleis had 2 triples. Both were stung...left center with a close play at third and right center resulting in an easy standup. This guy can fly. We had seen Rafaela and Lugo here a few years ago and both stood out physically and in affect. The same thing applies to Bleis. Hackneyed tho it is, he looks the part. He has an interesting jog to the outfield..almost a prance, a certain inherent elegance. In addition to the triples, he scored from first (easily) on a double to left.
The catcher, Elverson Lira, is big and robust. He has a gun. He threw out an attempted stealer by a wide margin with a bullet throw that could not have been more perfect. Sadly he is hitting about .110 to date.
Defensive gems were made by SS Ravelo..snaring a hard liner with an outstretched leap/dive to his right and made a nice diving stop of a hard hit grounder in the hole. Third baseman Johnfrank Salazar also made a full out diving grab of a smash down the line and threw out the runner. Kudos there.
The opening Sox pitcher, Luis Perales, has an Arm. He walked the leadoff hitter, gave up a hit and then hit the next batter loading the bases with no outs. A long mound visit followed with all infielders, catcher and pitching coach convening. Even the plate umpire had difficulty finally breaking it up. Perales then got out of the inning without allowing a score while striking out 2. Nobody was operating a 'gun' behind the plate today but at one point someone yelled from a dugout "96"! A pitch later someone in the stands yelled out "98"..A fan in front of us exclaimed "that pitch was a blur"...Perales induced a lot of swings and misses on the FB. Exciting guy.

Thanks guys!
My guess is the field had Trackman, so no gun was necessary (the voice in the dugout was probably whoever had the laptop).

Cundall saying some nice things about Jake Thompson in the game reports on patreon (well worth the investment if I do say so myself). He hadn’t seen him for awhile (surgery then covid will due that) but apparently he was mildly intriguing. If he can be an up-and-down guy that feels like found money. He’s kind of emerged as Portland’s top reliever this season
Also thanks you fellas for the game report. I Love hearing about that 98 for Perales, that’s for sure

Forgot to mention as a minor detail, but a pitch clock was being utilized after the second inning today. Guess what? No pitch was even close to violating it. MLB here we come!
Steveofbradenton is so on top of our DSL and FCL players. He should be added to Soxprospects staff in that area IMO. Beyond that, he is a good guy.

NESN televised the WOOSOX last night. I just caught him. Excellent. As far as I know NESN televises all the WooSox home games, but a) they are on NESN+ if there's a Red Sox game at the same time (as there usually is), and b) sometimes they get bumped to odd hours if NESN has another event on NESN+ (e.g. college sports).

I don't know how these "feels like" temperatures are calculated but I do know that after living in Florida for 25 years and recently moving to Kansas City 98 in Kansas City with a feels like of 103 is nothing like a 92 in Florida with a feels like of 103. Even when the weather report indicates nearly identical humidity there's just something incredibly thick, sticky and heavy about Florida. I can walk five miles in Kansas City up hills at noon and barely break a sweat. In Florida my shirt would not only be soaking wet my pants would look like I'd jumped in a swimming pool. Beyond that the Sun in Florida feels like a laser beam aimed at your head. There's literally a burning sensation.

Look on the bright side - and don't think too hard about the mass casualty event sure to follow.
