Mike Antonellis, one of the WooSox radio broadcasters, just called into the WEEI booth with a report on Sale's outing. Fastball was 93-94, t97 with shaky command but his slider was nasty and his changeup also good.
3.2 IP 3 H 1 R 5 BB 5 K
Two IF hits and a soft single to RF.

It's time to send Kavadas to AA so he can face appropriate competition.
WooSox pitching: 16 K, 8 BB in the loss.
Binghamton: 6 errors by 6 different players

Not liking that outing from Sale. He'll get eaten alive if he's struggling to throw strikes.

Dude makes it difficult to like him sometimes. This is clown behavior, and he has a track record of it.

Dude makes it difficult to like him sometimes. This is clown behavior, and he has a track record of it. Maybe. It's also something he was doing in an area where I think there's an expectation of privacy. Polar Park has one of those dugout-style seating sections between home and the dugout that has to be accessed through the same tunnels the players use, and I assume that's how this video got filmed. My primary concern here is that if one of the Sox pitchers were to get hurt in an expression of rage after an outing, it's easy to bet it would be him the way the last few years have gone.

Zealously passionate competitor, or unhinged baby? Who's to say! We never really know who these people are. At least we know he cares.
This reminded me of the time David Ortiz smashed a phone in Baltimore, which in turn reminded me of this flow chart of the unwritten rules of baseball:
It's actually kind of crazy how many of these unwritten rules have fallen by the wayside since 2014. And all for the better, I say.

He clearly cares very deeply about the way he plays, to the point of getting furious at himself about a mediocre AAA rehab start. What more can you ask for as a fan? I'm fine with him being disappointed in himself. Actually prefer that to being content with subpar performance. However, I guess I would expect him to be a good example to the younger players. Destroying other peoples property doesn't meet that expectation for me. Baseball is a game of dealing with failure...should we now expect every player to start destroying stuff when things don't go their way?

Sale clearly likes attention. That's about all I take away from it. Whether he knew he would be caught on film or not, he knew that some of his teammates and coaches would see/hear his tantrum and then talk about his passion and perfectionism afterwards.
The destruction of property is nothing. He will obviously pay to have it redone better than it was before (which, of course, will cause current and future WooSox to talk about him for years to come...).
I guess the other thing I take away from it is that he clearly knows that his 2022 debut with the big club was delayed by at least 5 days by his performance.

“his passion and perfectionism” — Or his immaturity and lack of professionalism.

“his passion and perfectionism” — Or his immaturity and lack of professionalism. You have read well between the lines but I think players and coaches would see it (or at least talk about it) as passion and perfectionism. I would guess that most AAA teammates are pretty reverential, playing behind a borderline HOFer. The coaches, OTOH, are likely to tell all current and future WooSox that if they ever pull something like that their ass will be in the jackpot.

But what makes me like him less than this is that he’s started 9 games over the last 3 seasons. A guy as fragile as Sale should absolutely not be smashing things and kicking hard objects. His inability to throw strikes and the reduced velocity are concerning. My first thought is he was overthrowing causing a lack of control and maybe overthrowing because he is already having issues with his elbow.

But what makes me like him less than this is that he’s started 9 games over the last 3 seasons. While making an AAV of $25.6M (Fangraphs). I'm sick of the guy's act and will be happy when we're out of that contract. We can't seem to get off this treadmill of always waiting for crap contracts to end - Sandoval, Price, Sale, Hanley. Before that, Beckett and C. Crawford were on sunk-cost contracts (Thanks, LAD!). Maybe the answer is to stop giving them out in the first place?
