A bit confused now with new rules concerning draft & follows.. Mike's post shows can offer up to 225k and not count against the cap, yet the Sox have only think is 20k and change left. Was under impression teams were still limited to 125k, but D&F's just got the extra time window and those with extra cash could give another 100k.
Can Boston actually offer Ehrlicher 225k between now and next summer without penalties? Thanks

When is Ehrlicher draft eligible again? Next year. Sox have until 1 week before next year's draft to sign him.

And Marques Johnson got 122.5K according to BA's tracker. That closes the book on this draft (although not really, since Ehrlicher's status is still up in the air.)

Nice job by Toboni and his staff to sign all but two of their draft. picks one a Draft and Follow. And the two they missed are SS, a position of strength in the organization.. Roman got a windfall. Hope he lives up to expectations.

So for what it's worth, while the effort to get the signings done is praiseworthy, these guys are drafted with the knowledge that, at least for like 19/21 of them or so, they are or are not likely to sign. It's not like the Red Sox talked to Deundre Jones for the first time on July 20. Or didn't know if Meidroth would sign for $275k. (global comment - a lot of people have expressed that sentiment)
Yes, there are rare Fabian-type situations, but mostly they know what the deal is before taking a guy.

My guess is still more likely to be no on those two, but definitely would not rule them out. For all we know Zayas got over slot. It might be the reason he opted to go pro. So he ended up getting 'only' 47,5K. Kinda surprising!

If the Sox sign Ehrlicher a week before next year's draft, is that bonus money deducted from next year's bonus pool money?

Just wondering, they signed 19 guys. Where are they going to put them? No team in Lowell, so where do they go?

Playing time might be a problem.

I know others on this board can give a better and more detailed answer than I but I believe the Sox have space on the domestic reserve list to add a lot of those guys, also I believe you don't go against that number if you're in the complex league and I would imagine some of these guys are going there and not playing ball for any affiliate this year. Would love some clarification on this myself.

Would love some clarification on this myself. The domestic limit is 180, which the Red Sox are not over. The FCL doesn't have roster limits. The pitchers will slowly get integrated and the position players will start playing soon. There won't be regular playing time for everyone unfortunately (obviously the higher regarded players will get more playing time).

I still feel it was a huge mistake eliminating rookie leagues for the sake of $$$. For selfish reasons I enjoyed the Lowell Spinners and following young draftees as they embarked on professional careers. Games there were entertaining and reasonable for the family. Also good for the communities they represented.
This year, because of circumstances, this would have been a problem starting the season in early June. But a rookie league apart from the Florida and Arizona CLs would have taken care of the problem of finding playing time for those players new to their organizations.

Not sure that eliminating one minor league team is that significant in finding playing time for the youngest players. Assume they have too many players to have play on the official rookie league team, what is to keep the Red Sox from putting a bunch of players on a bus and having them go to the Twins training site across town and playing a bunch of the Twins players in a non-official game on a back field? The next day the Twins could send players to Fenway South. They are maybe a 15-20 minute drive apart.
People could get their work in but there would not be the expense of running another minor league team in a totally different city.

And the rule you're thinking of is that players who aren't assigned don't count toward the reserve limit. So last year ERC didn't count toward the 180 because he was never assigned to a team. The Red Sox should have room to add most of these guys but I need to recalculate post-deadline.

Seems like a case where a guy is just 100% committed to turning pro and giving it a shot. The sox are willing to give him that chance and probably like a couple of his tools (speed, defensive profile), but let's be clear that Zayas isn't a top HS guy. If his Miami Dade HS profile is to be believed he was a career .217 hitter in HS with a career .615 OPS. Maybe he looked a little more intriguing on national showcases, but I'm pretty sure his PG ranking is based on a couple of tools and not performance. He's a real long shot in my mind to get meaningful playing time and to ever advance out of short season ball. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer.

I'd be shocked. I thought Chris in podcast after draft indicated Romero or the outfielder Anthony would be in 10- 20 range. I'd think on that scale, Cannon would be in low 20s/early 30s. (Of course, Callis threw some cold water on the picks, so maybe knowck them down 5 more spots). Just guessing, but the Dean/Rodgers guys would be in 40-50 range, and Brannon the catcher prob same until he gets AB beyond HS and proves self, with chance to rise quickly if...
