Has the Qualifying Offer issue been decided yet? I want to say the deadline to agree to the international draft thus removing the QO system has either passed or will pass soon with little to no information coming out about it recently I'm guessing that the QO system will be in effect this offseason again.

I believe the deadline is July 25th, so 3 days from now.

I want them to buy even though the Sale injury is a blow to their playoff hopes.
I think if you are an overall seller this year, you decrease the chance of Xander and Devers being drawn back to Boston because they want to be part of contending teams. Neither of those players wants to play on a “bridge year” team. Make it plain to both that they will always be winners if they decide to stay in Boston. You sold Lester hoping you’d have him back in a few months. Bad plan.
Plus, you’re actually in playoff contention right now even with the Sale injury. The team is flawed, but fixable. Fix it by buying at this trade deadline.

Last season the Yannkees were 46-43 coming out of the all star break and were able to show a little fight and then buy at the deadline which led to a playoff run. If those bums could do it last year there’s no reason the Sox can’t use the same strategy this season. Yes, glad the Yankees made the second wildcard, so the Red Sox could beat them in a one game playoff. Yes, the Yankees were in the playoffs for 4 hours. Yes, it was salt for me to rub in the wounds of my arrogant, self-absorbed, Yankee fan friends and relatives (I hate the fans not the players, and hope they finish 0-162 every year).

We should definitely sell. We have the worst OF/1B situation in the league. The time to try to fix those holes was months ago.

I vote for strategic buying and strategic selling.

I’ve seen enough. Sell Schreiber Vazquez Jd Eovaldi Diekman Strahm Braiser Add Franchy. His limitless potential should get at least a good rental like maybe Benintendi?

The question in my mind was were they the bad team we saw in the first 2 months or the great team we saw in June? The answer came in the first 2 weeks in July. We're just not very good. So, selling some of our rentals for some good prospects looks like a good plan. Plus, we could always bring back some of the guys we traded in the off season.
I think Bloom is paying very close attention right now and putting out the word to other teams he might be selling. Then seeing what he could get. He's under no pressure to do anything. Or is he?

I’m still into buying for guys that would positively impact 2023
I’m now selling every pending free agent on the roster

I wish they would sell because I just don’t think this team is very good. I think ownership would be too worried about the backlash so it won’t happen. They have been the 5th best team in the league, despite an absurd rash of injuries. I think that the team, with everybody healthy, is the second best team in the league, tied with the Yankees and trailing the Astros.
However, it's very unclear that a) they can make the playoffs when the Marinrs will have a 7 or 8 win edge on them just because they don't 76 games against the AL East, and b) that they'll have enough healthy, at-their-normal best players in October to advance in the post-season.
Having said all that, I'm in favor of a combo buy / sell (see the deadline thread).

Combo buying and selling seems like something a team like the Twins would do.

Three important points. 1. Unlike a team stuck in mediocrity all over the diamond, there are obvious spots to upgrade. It differentiates them from a team that's in 85-win hell. That's good. 2. The holes are the ones that were apparent in December and so I question the team's ability to fill them. That's bad. 3. I am not emotionally prepared for a trade of Xander Bogaerts. I'm not sure about point 2. Dalbec was one of the very best hitters in MLB the last couple of months last year, and Casas was thought to be in the bigs at around the ASB. It seemed likelier that we'd have to find a way to get them both into the lineup than that we'd have to try Franchy.
Now, since July 8 Dalbec has had 18 PA against LHP and is .265 / .429 / .627 = .448 wOBA expected, .286 / .444 / .714 = .481 actual. Until two games ago, however, had a .117 expected and .157 actual wOBA in 29 PA against RHP.
That big a split is of course not sustainable, and indeed he had 7 PA the last two games, all vs. RHP, and he went .500 / .429 / 1.500 = .716 wOBA, with a .681 xwOBA. These last 4 games before the deadline will be very interesting re 1B and what they do there.
They were gambling on a JBJ return to adequate offense, and I believe that Refsnyder was always intended to be the missing platoon partner. RF the rest of this year and especially the next is the toughest nut to crack on the whole roster.

No idea what the specific move(s) would be, but my hunch has been that they trade JDM and "replace" him with a corner outfielder who's controllable through at least next season.

Can we stop for a moment, and concentrate on what the Sox need?
Right away --
1st base RF, unless they believe RobR is that person dominant reliever. Or two.
And: If they trade Vaz, you can't really have Plaw and Wong, can you?
Who do you get, and who are you trading for them?

If the team doesn't get healthy in a big way, they can't patch these holes enough to make the playoffs. Even if they do get healthy, I doubt we make the playoffs, and even if we do make the playoffs, I doubt we make it out of the WC round. If the return is even average for a trade deadline, choo choo.
