Worcester Game Recap says Bello to rehab start tonight. It's Wikelman's turn, so assuming they aren't holding him back, he'll get his high-A intro tonight. Also, a good chance Elmer pitches at noon. So some interesting pitching possibilities today.

Any chance Casas gets called up this weekend? Tuesday is the point at which he wouldn't lose rookie eligibility.

It may have gotten buried in yesterday's thread, but Chase Meidroth is having a pretty excellent start to his pro career.

Figured I’d post the Big Joe bomb from last night for the Big Joe Fan Club

Really want to see Bello and Casas finish strong in AAA. Then, get a look the last couple of weeks in Boston. Need both prospects at beginning of next year.

I think Allan Castro needs some love. He was the Latin America Position Player of the Year for the Sox last year and he’s continued to hit well in the FCL. He’s only 19, so he’s not super old for the level and he’s 15 or so ABs away from being 7th in the league in OPS. If Bleis isn’t taking CF reps from him, he definitely qualifies.

Casas needs to feel he has earned a promotion. His underlying fundamentals may be strong, but his production has been underwhelming given the consensus on his potential. Results matter in order to justify perception of tool quality. "Let the player tell us when he's ready" is the mantra from the development people, right?

Casas is the first high profile "Will they try and steal a year of service time?" case for this regime
Most people seem to think that he should be called up around now. Maybe he won't reach all the appropriate development milestones until late April, though.

Honest question: why call up Casas now? With Hosmer and Dalbec, he’d only get part-time action. Isn’t it better for him to play everyday at AAA, especially having missed a lot of time this year? I get calling him up later to get him a taste of the bigs, but I’d hate to have him sitting.

My only concern for Casas is his bad numbers vs. LHP. I think with experience he can work through it, but if we're looking for that extra offensive push to make a run at season's end, I think I'd rather have Dalbec in right now vs. LHP. He's been quietly better as of late. SSS true, but in years past Bobby D seems to have a history of heating up at the end of the season. Wouldn't mind seeing Casas/Hosmer/Dalbec split time at 1B/DH

But at this point he'd only be missing out on a few weeks of the season, only a week if they wait until the Minnesota series. At that point I'd be more concerned with how we are making room for him on the 40 man.

Nice outing by ERC: 4IP, 1H, 0ER, 2BB, 3K
Jonathan Brand making his debut.
Add: and now Isaac Coffey debuting.

Yuten with his first home run in the DSL! That along with a double looks really nice, considering the beanpole frame he reportedly came in with. If he can add strength well and fill out his build there might be a real player under there.

On Casas, the argument is he platoons with Hosmer, who has reverse splits and hasn't quite set the world on fire in a very SSS.
Dalbec has barely played since Hosmer arrived. The only reason it's not an obvious swap is handedness.
That said, they'd be completely justified if they don't bring him up this year as well.

Why is there any argument about bringing Casas up right now? Why not wait until next year after a month and gain an extra year of control? He's not exactly crushing it this year. You have a left handed hitting first baseman with a track record playing right now and you're still sort of in the hunt for a wildcard spot. Other organizations do it all the time, why can't the Red Sox do it too?

And honestly I don't get that one bit, he's a 22 year old with an .820 OPS in AAA. I'm not going to claim those are video game numbers but if you ask me that's pretty damn good. I'd be pretty confident that he can come up right now and hit righties in the MLB at least as well as a league average 1st baseman. Admittedly he does need to progress vs lefties so I'm in no hurry for them to call him up right now.

Thus, presumably, for an extra "extra year" it would be some time next August, not May. Note: I might have this entirely wrong. Maybe an expert will weigh in down the way.

Losing 7-3 in the bottom of the 9th, DSL Blue rallies to win via a walk-off BB.
