C'mon, as if RS nation doesn't already feel snake-bitten. Remy's gone, Eck is leaving, and the eternal child collapsed during an exhibition game. I was too young to remember Bill Lee, the Red Sox, but I've crossed paths with him on several occasions as an adult in addition to seeing a few of the specials on him and his love for the game and for people always shone through to me. Hope he is ok.

I've had the pleasure of meeting him several times. He always had great stories to tell and is quite funny and intelligent.
I hope he'll be alright. How scary.

There was a watering hole named McFaddens over by Quincy Market, it's probably been closed 10 years now. But maybe around 2007ish, I was in there, and Bill Lee walked in and was amazing, talking to everyone. Most people seemed like they'd met him before. He probably left around midnight. I left around 1:00ish and he was outside talking to a horse that was lying down.

I am glad to see he is doing well. But if you have got to go and we all do. That wouldn't be a bad way to go. Doing something you love to do.

Bill came to Hartford for a minor league game when I was there a couple years ago. I didn't get to talk with him much, he was in a deep conversation with someone else, but I did get to talk with his wife or girl friend mostly about this incident:
Bill said he lost quite a lot off the fastball after the fight. I asked his friend if he ever saw Nettles after that and had forgiven him for what he did to his career. She said that Bill and Craig have done a lot of instruction camps together and were actually friends now. I told her I thought that was great.

This my friends was during my baseball formative years and one of many reasons I learned to hate the Yankees.
