Not that long ago I thought he would be traded and we would never see him again. Now I’m starting to think it’s possible he is back. What is JDs value at this point. I don’t even want to put a number on it, and maybe because of that he would rather a fresh start.

I accidentally missed under 5M$ and in Boston. Personally I think this is the least likely.

He's getting over 5 somewhere. 10 isn't unrealistic.

It's probably 10-15 and it will not be with the sox.

I new from the beginning JD would be with the Red Sox for 5 years. His $23,750,000 was too high for the AL teams who needed a DH (too few of teams to bit). After JD’s terrible 2020 there were no takers, and even though 2021 was very good for JD, the $19,350,000 was still too high even thought there was a universal DH. Many thought he would go at the deadline, but $6,500,000 was too high for a rental considering his lack of power this year.
IMO the Red Sox do NOT offer a QO, because he would take it, and the RS are ready to move on from him.

May edge up to $95-96M. Because of Covid, his actual salary over the 5 years is $95.3M. So, actually, the contract appears to be fair all around, and in the first two years, he exceeded his AAV. Also, he was a major factor in the playoffs and winning the world series. But there is a clear and rapid decline this year. Doubtful he will get $22M AAV again, but if he signs a 1 year "show me" deal, he could get back to a short ($20Mish AAV) deal if he looks more like 2021. If a team thinks he's still got something in the tank without a one year deal, he could get a 3 year deal in the mid-teens. I am more than sure Bloom is done with him, but there are teams who will be more than happy to have him, though not at $22M AAV. Athletes age out, especially in an era where PEDs are more controlled. But I, for one, will miss JD, esp the 2018-19 and 2021 versions. No complaints.

JD and his super agent decided not to opt-out, and by your numbers ($95-$96 million still fall short of the contract he signed for $110,000,000 for five years. JD was a bargain in 2018 and 2019, whereas 2020 and 2022 not so much.

Don’t forget in 2020 he blamed the MLB rules from prohibiting him from breaking down video in the clubhouse. So he had an excuse for that year.

And 2020 is an outlier year for a LOT of ballplayers (and a legit small sample). It was just a weird year with Covid, all sorts of rules and disruptions. Some guys adjusted, but many across the league did not.

I could see a team going nowhere giving him a pillow contract for something like $20m, hoping the power rebounds and he can be a significant trade deadline asset. Maybe the Diamondbacks, who have gotten absolutely jack-squat from DH and don't really have better options for 2023 that I'm aware of.
