They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Batting practice for Toronto. The Red Sox really want there money’s worth from Hill. Is it time to pull the plug on the season? Probably. But it is not like there are half a dozen guys waiting in the wings to change the late-season trajectory. Casas, Bello, Mata all can wait for the rosters to expand. Players like Plawecki, Dalbec, Pham, Brasier can easily be cut loose for guys who could use a look-see. I would rather play .400 baseball with rookies than .500 with never wozzers and used to be’s.

I am very ready for them to pull the plug and play the games with an eye to the future, for sure. This season has been just no fun whatsoever.

Confusion Eovaldi to IL Yeah, they pushed Eovaldi to today and then he couldn't make the start. Hill tomorrow has been the plan since the middle of last week. They're not going to move him up last minute when Winckowski is right there.

Last week I thought the Sox had the edge pitching wise, this week Toronto. So I'm assuming Sox take 2 out of 3.

In that span, we played AL east teams 8 times - 5 Balt (we went 2-3), and 3 Toronto (we went 1-2). Our next 30 has 17 against AL east teams, plus games against Minnesota

Either there's some magic spell that's making them way underperform against the AL East, or... there isn't, and maybe they'll start playing better.
They've dug a big hole that they probably won't be able to get out of, but if you've never seen a team make an improbable run you haven't been watching baseball very long.

Hosmer and Eovaldi to IL, Franchy and Winck up. Bad sign for those that want to see Casas before three weeks into next season.
Look, I never want to see Franchy playing 1B for a team trying to win a title. I don't think it's an obvious call if they should give him another small arb pay day to be a backup OF, so I'm happy to see him get some at bats. Also, I don't think it's smart to just completely ignore the fact that he roughed up AAA pitching this year.

I don’t think it’s entirely out of the question he can be a bench OF with a .750 OPS

There’s no “magic spell”, it’s just that they are the worst team in their division and played accordingly all year.

Going back to his age 22 he has been a great AAA player… and a bad MLB player. It happens. I’m fine with a minor league contract for depth, but $1 million+? It is burning money.

Franchy hasn't actually been a disaster this year at the plate, plus he's a good baserunner. If you pretend that instead of butchering 1B he was playing OF passably well, he'd be at like 0.5 WAR this year.
