Rubby continues his struggles in AAA. 3 walks, a double, and a triple in the 2nd inning, allowing 4 runs. Barely above 50% strikes through two innings

Rubbie gets five of the first six but then the wheels come off.
Hopefully someone is on site today with details.
Are they restricting the type of pitches or his repotoire in any way?

It's more likely a combination of the fact that control is the last thing to regain after TJ surgery and that he's never had good control. When he's "back" you can probably expect a BB% from 10-13%.

I'd much rather him be struggling with command than velocity, especially off TJ surgery

Not unexpected, really. The velocity is there, but he'll need command of that pitch to set everything else up. The Sox are wise to limit his innings, to allow him to regain his feel for the pitch, and to temper the total number of pitches he puts on that new ligament. This will come, but it will take time.

Ian Cundall's at the game. I'm assuming he'll have something in his next Scouting Scratch on Rubby.
Also, the McCoy gun is fairly consistent but is a mph or two hot (assuming that's where Speier got his readings) so just keep that in mind.

Any concern with Ortiz performance at Pawtucket?

Per Evan Lepler, Matt Price added to Salem to replace Miggy Pena.

Jeremy Kehrt with another impressive performance in relief of Rubby. Also, hard not to be impressed with Mitch Maier, who looks like he could really help the big club in the event of an injury (and allow JBJ to take his time developing in AAA, where he belongs for now).

Since this thread originally said Brian Johnson, figured I'd mention that he's scheduled to pitch on Sunday. Missed his last start because he was sick.

Garin Cecchini racking up the true outcomes today, going 2-3 with a homerun, a K, and 2 BBs (slips a double into the mix for his other hit).

If you had Portland +15 runs tonight, YOU LOST! (at least Bogaerts had two hits, including a double)
