The HOF has released its list of players who will be on the ballot of the Contemporary Era Committee for induction in 2023 and it's disappointing to say the least. It includes: Albert Belle, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Dale Murphy, Rafael Palmeiro and Curt Schilling. Cheaters Bonds and Clemens, along with Schilling, were just rejected for the 10th straight year by the BBWAA. I don't understand the rush to get them on the Eras Committee (former the Vets Committee) ballot so quickly. As someone who doesn't want confirmed 'roid users in the HOF, I don't like seeing Palmeiro on there. He also exhausted his eligibility with the writers. Most of all, I was looking forward to seeing Dewey Evans (67.2 career B-Ref WAR) having a shot. Instead, we get Mattingly (42.4), Murphy (46.5) and Belle (40.1). It's a total joke. The only guy on there that I can support is McGriff. I've always felt he was the player who was most screwed over by the steroids era. He put up numbers that would have made him a top slugger in any other era, but his wRC+, OPS-plus, and other comparative stats took a hit in an era when a guy had to hit 30 HRs just to be one of the boys. Still, his OPS-plus and wRC+ were each 134, plenty good enough for the HOF. Anyone who's fascinated by HOF voting and membership should go the site of the Hall of Stats. Click on the "Upcoming Elections" link and you'll see the names of quite a few guys who should be on this ballot before the guys who made it.

Ivan Rodriguez, Mike Piazza, and Jeff Bagwell are all in the HOF. All had huge steroid questions, but never had the light shined on them with it like Clemens and Bonds.
The simple fact is that the HOF already has steroid users in there. At least one of those guys used. I'm sure there might be others that used in the HOF that are already there that we don't suspect either.
I don't get not putting in the a top 5 pitcher of all-time. The greatest slugger of all-time. The veterans committee might not have the character clause in their voting process. I'm hoping it doesn't.

I think Ivan Rodriguez and Bagwell are the most certain. I recall their MLB Network interviews just after they got elected. They were each asked about the suspicions. And each answered something along the lines of "I played the game right. I worked hard." Neither denied it. Instead, they just spouted out a line that had obviously been fed to them by a PR type. My standard has always been that confirmed users shouldn't be considered, but I don't go to the extreme of thinking we should block guys because of well, you know, he looked kind of big and he hit a lot of HRs and I've heard rumors about him. I was Ok with Ortiz because two commissioners and two heads of the PA said we should be extremely skeptical of the 2003 list.

I never heard that Schilling used steroids. I just know a bunch of people do not like him. His baseball career makes him deserving IMO. You all are entitled to yours.

I wasn't trying to say Schilling was a cheater. If that was my intent I would have said: "Cheaters Bonds, Clemens and Schilling..." The "along with" was meant to say that he was another guy whose BBWAA eligibility ran out this year but who is on this new ballot. By BB performance only, Schilling is an easy "Yes" vote. His WAR is among the highest ever for P's. I used to think that he deserved a plaque, despite his stupidity and bigotry. I also felt that if he made it, I would feel no sense of happiness like I did for Yaz, Pedro, Papi, etc. But once he supported a violent attempt to overthrow the U.S. government that killed five people and that was based on a lie, I was out. YMMV.
